Battery connector for electronic cigarette with side air intake
The connector is configured to couple a first section and a second section of an e-vaping device. The connector includes a flange with a first end and a second end, a shaft with sidewalls extending from the first end of the flange, and a cylindrical base extending from the second end of the flange. The connector defines a longitudinal opening extending from the shaft through the cylindrical base, the sidewalls and the flange collectively defining at least one first channel in fluid communication with the longitudinal opening. The e-vaping device includes the connector.
1. A connector configured to couple a first section and a second section of an e-vaping device, comprising:
a flange with a first end and a second end;
a shaft with sidewalls extending from the first end of the flange; and
a cylindrical base extending from the second end of the flange,
the connector defining a longitudinal opening extending from the shaft through the cylindrical base,
the sidewalls and the flange collectively defining at least one first channel in fluid communication with the longitudinal opening.
2. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first channel at least partially penetrates an outer cylindrical surface of the flange.
3. The connector of claim 2 , wherein the outer cylindrical surface of the flange is a widest portion of the connector along a longitudinal length of the connector.
4. The connector of claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of the cylindrical base defines longitudinal grooves spanning a longitudinal length of the cylindrical base.
5. The connector of claim 1 , further comprising:
an inner shelf along an interior surface of the sidewalls, and
wherein an outer shelf exists on an outer surface of the connector due to a difference in an external diameter between the shaft and the flange,
the inner shelf and the outer shelf further defining the at least one first channel.
6. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the connector is configured to hold a battery post, the battery post being on an end of the second section.
7. The connector of claim 6 , wherein,
the at least one first channel includes a first channel and a second channel being spaced apart equidistantly on the connector,
the first channel and the second channel being configured to align with a first groove running across an end of a post head of the battery post to assist, in guiding incoming air through the first groove.
8. The connector of claim 1 , wherein the shaft is configured to connect to the first section of the e-vaping device and the cylindrical base is configured to connect to the second section of the e-vaping device, the first section being a cartridge and the second section being a power section.

The connector of claim 8 , wherein the connector is configured to establish an airflow path once the connector is connected to the first section and the second section, the airflow path causing incoming air to enter the longitudinal opening through the at least one first channel and exit the connector through the shaft.
10. The connector of claim 1 , wherein an end of the shaft defines an external screw thread, the flange being spaced apart from the external screw thread.
11. The connector of claim 1 , wherein an outer cylindrical surface of the flange is a widest portion of the connector along a longitudinal length of the connector, a diameter of the cylindrical base being greater than a diameter of the shaft.
12. An e-vaping device, comprising:
a power section; and
a connector on and end of the power section, the connector including,
a flange with a first end and a second end,
a shaft with sidewalls extending from the first end of flange, and
a cylindrical base extending from the second end of the flange, the cylindrical base being configured to connect to the power section,
the connector defining a longitudinal opening extending from the shaft through the cylindrical base,
the sidewalls and the flange collectively defining at least one first channel in fluid communication with the longitudinal opening.
13. The e-vaping device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one first channel of the connector at least partially penetrates an outer cylindrical surface of the flange, the outer cylindrical surface of the flange being a widest portion of the connector along a longitudinal length of the connector.
14. The e-vaping device of claim 12 , wherein an outer surface of the cylindrical base of the connector defines longitudinal grooves spanning a longitudinal length of the cylindrical base.
15. The e-vaping, device of claim 12 , wherein the connector further includes,
an inner shelf along an interior surface of the sidewalls, and
wherein an outer shelf exists on an outer surface of the connector due to a difference in an external diameter between the shaft and the flange,
the inner shelf and the outer shelf further defining the at least one first channel.
16. The e-vaping device of claim 12 , further comprising:
a cartridge, the shaft of the connector being configured to connect to the cartridge,
wherein the connector is configured to hold a battery post, the battery post being electrically connected to the power section.
17. The e-vaping device of claim 16 , wherein,
the at least one first channel of the connector includes a first channel and a second channel being spaced apart equidistantly on the connector, the first channel and the second channel being configured to align with a first groove running across an end of a post head of the battery post to assist in guiding incoming air through the first groove,
the connector being configured to establish an airflow path causing incoming air to enter the longitudinal opening and travel across the first groove via the first channel and the second channel, the first groove being in fluid communication with the cartridge and a longitudinal orifice in the battery post, the longitudinal orifice being in fluid communication with the power section.
18. The e-vaping device of claim 16 , wherein,
the at least one first channel of the connector includes a first channel and a second channel being spaced apart equidistantly on the connector,
wherein the connector is configured to establish an airflow path causing incoming air to enter the longitudinal opening via the first channel and the second channel, the longitudinal opening being in fluid communication with the cartridge and at least one post channel on a side of the battery post, the post channel being in fluid communication with the power section.
19. The e-vaping device of claim 12 , further comprising:
an outer housing, wherein an outer cylindrical surface of the flange is a widest portion of the connector along a longitudinal length of the connector, a diameter of the cylindrical base being greater than a diameter of the shaft, the outer cylindrical surface of the flange being flush with an outer surface of the outer housing.
