Abstract

A method and system for securely delivering goods to a recipient is disclosed. The method and system include an input device having a tilt plate comprising a front side and a back side. The front side includes an outer touch surface. The back side includes electronic components mounted thereon and a raised center pivot, a plurality of spring loaded switches mounted thereon disposed around the periphery of the back side. Pressing the outer touch surface proximate its periphery in a sequence causes two or more of the spring-loaded switches to be activated. The system further includes at least one processor adapted to receive signals from the input device and compare the sequence entered by a delivery agent with a predetermined sequence as part of an access code associated with an order of goods for the recipient, and to grant access to an enclosure of the recipient if the sequence entered by the delivery agent matches the predetermined sequence.

Claims (28)

1 . A method for securely delivering goods to recipients, the method comprising:

obtaining a unique identifier associated with an order of goods intended for delivery to a recipient; and

obtaining an access code derived from at least a portion of the unique identifier, the access code comprising a predetermined sequence, and

providing an input device comprising a tilt plate comprising a front side and a back side, wherein the front side comprises an outer touch surface, wherein the back side comprises electronic components mounted thereon, a raised center pivot and a plurality of spring loaded switches mounted thereon disposed around the periphery of the back side;

pressing proximate the periphery of the outer touch surface in the predetermined sequence, to thereby activate two or more of the spring-loaded switches, which thereby allows a delivery agent who pressed the outer touch surface in the predetermined sequence to gain access to an enclosure of the recipient for deposit of the goods therein.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the access code is a temporary access code assigned to the order of goods.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the access code is usable only within a specified access window.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the access code expires upon being used to access the enclosure.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining the access code comprises requesting the access code from a server.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the server is a third-party server.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unique identifier is one of a tracking number, an order number, and a product identifier.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the unique identifier is generated by one of a retailer of the goods and a shipper of the goods.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the access code is derived from the unique identifier.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising programming the input device of the enclosure with the access code.

11 . A system for securely delivering goods to a recipient, the system comprising:

an input device comprising a tilt plate comprising a front side and a back side;

the front side comprising an outer touch surface;

the back side comprising electronic components mounted thereon and a raised center pivot, a plurality of spring loaded switches mounted thereon disposed around the periphery of the back side, whereby pressing proximate the periphery of the outer touch surface in a sequence two or more of the spring-loaded switches are activated;

at least one processor adapted to receive signals from the input device and compare the sequence entered by a delivery agent with a predetermined sequence as part of an access code associated with an order of goods for the recipient, and to grant access to an enclosure of the recipient if the sequence entered by the delivery agent matches the predetermined sequence.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the access code is a temporary access code.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the access code is usable only within a specified access window.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the access code expires upon being used to access the enclosure.

15 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising computer-usable program code to request the access code from a server.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the server is a third-party server.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the unique identifier is one of a tracking number, an order number, and a product identifier.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the unique identifier is generated by one of a retailer of the goods and a shipper of the goods.

19 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising computer-usable program code to derive the access code from the unique identifier.

20 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising computer-usable program code to program an access mechanism of the enclosure with the access code.
