Abstract

A fiber optic patching system may include one or more cassettes which may be removably coupled a chassis. A cassette may include a channel with a lock tab disposed within the channel. Each cassette may be adapted to receive and secure any type of data cable and cable connector. A chassis may include an alignment slot and a key which may extend away from the alignment slot, and the key may have a key aperture. The cassette may be coupled within the alignment slot by inserting the key into the channel so that the lock tab and key aperture are engaged together. Preferably, the portion of the key having the key aperture may be movable away from the portion of the cassette having the lock tab to disengage the lock tab and key aperture so that the cassette is able to be uncoupled from the alignment slot.

Claims (35)

1. A fiber optic patching system, the system comprising a cassette for receiving a data cable having a cable connector, the cassette configured to be removably coupled to a chassis, the chassis comprising:

a plurality of alignment slots and a plurality of keys extending away from the plurality of alignment slots so that each key of the plurality of keys is aligned with an alignment slot of the plurality of alignment slots;

the plurality of keys each having a key aperture; and

the cassette comprising:

a body having a first vertical surface, a second vertical surface, a lower surface, and an upper surface, wherein the first vertical surface, second vertical surface, lower surface, and upper surface are disposed between a front end and a back end;

a front plate coupled to the front end, the front plate comprising a front plate aperture adapted to receive the cable connector;

a back plate coupled to the back end, the back plate comprising a back plate aperture adapted to receive a portion of the data cable;

a channel within the body; and

a lock tab disposed within the channel, wherein the cassette is coupled within the alignment slot of the plurality of alignment slots by inserting the key of the plurality of keys into the channel so that the lock tab and the key aperture are engaged together.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cassette comprises a strain relief anchor.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the strain relief anchor is disposed within the body.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the front end is generally square shaped.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the alignment slot is formed between a first divider and a second divider.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the first divider and second divider are generally parallel to each other.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the chassis comprises a face plate.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the chassis comprises a tray, and wherein the tray is opposingly positioned on the chassis relative to the plurality of keys so that the face plate is positioned in-between the plurality of keys and the tray.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the lock tab is a protrusion extending into the channel of the cassette and the lock tab is configured to pass into and partially through the key aperture.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the key having the key aperture is constructed from a flexible material as to be movable away from the portion of the cassette having the lock tab to disengage the lock tab and key aperture so that the cassette is able to be uncoupled from the alignment slot.

11. A fiber optic patching system, the system comprising a chassis configured to removably couple a cassette having a channel with a lock tab disposed within the channel, the chassis comprising:

a frame base;

a first divider coupled to the frame base;

a second divider coupled to the frame base;

an alignment slot bounded by the first divider, second divider, and frame base;

a key extending away from the alignment slot, the key having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and an angled portion separating the proximal portion from the distal portion;

a key aperture positioned on the distal portion of the key; and

wherein the key is configured to be inserted into the cassette channel so that the lock tab and key aperture are engaged together.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the cassette comprises a strain relief anchor.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the strain relief anchor is disposed within a body.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the cassette comprises a front end and the front end is generally square shaped.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the key is flexible and moveable relative to the chassis frame base.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first divider and second divider are generally parallel to each other.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the chassis comprises a face plate having a securement aperture.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the chassis comprises a tray, and wherein the tray is opposingly positioned on the chassis relative to the key so that the face plate is positioned in-between the key and the tray.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the lock tab is a protrusion extending into the channel of the cassette and configured to pass into the key aperture.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the portion of the key having the key aperture is movable away from the portion of the cassette having the lock tab to disengage the lock tab and key aperture so that the cassette is able to be uncoupled from the alignment slot.
