Abstract

Example systems, methods, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for dynamic provisioning of wireless devices with health gateways are disclosed. One example method includes detecting, by a wireless device, a signal from a health gateway, the signal including connection information and service information; determining whether the health gateway is a suitable based on the connection information and the service information; and in response to determining that the health gateway is suitable, establishing a communications connection with the health gateway.

Claims (57)

1. A method for dynamic provisioning of a wireless device with a health gateway, the method comprising:

detecting, by the wireless device, a signal from the health gateway, the signal including connection information and service information, the service information comprising at least one service universally unique identifier (“service UUID”), wherein the at least one service UUID corresponds to at least one service provider or customer backend of the health gateway;

determining, before establishing a communications connection with the health gateway, whether the health gateway is suitable based at least in part on the connection information and the service information, including the at least one service UUID, in combination with manufacturer-specific data of the wireless device, the manufacturer-specific data comprising a device model of the wireless device and a manufacturing company of the wireless device; and

in response to determining that the health gateway is suitable, establishing a communications connection with the health gateway.

The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable is based at least in part on a compatibility between a service provider or a customer backend and the wireless device, the compatibility determined using the at least one service UUID, the device model of the wireless device, and the manufacturing company of the wireless device, the health gateway in communication with the service provider or the customer backend.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the service information comprises a type of data processed by the health gateway or health gateway manufacturer-specific data, and wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable is further based at least in part on a type of data obtainable by the wireless device or determining that the health gateway manufacturer-specific data is compatible with the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable comprises determining that the health gateway is not designated as unsuitable by the wireless device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the signal is received from a wireless access point in communication with the health gateway.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless device comprises a medical device.

7. A wireless device comprising:

a wireless transceiver;

a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

a processor in communication with the non-transitory computer-readable medium and configured to:

detect, using the wireless transceiver, a signal from a health gateway, the signal including connection information and service information, the service information comprising at least one service universally unique identifier (“service UUID”), wherein the at least one service UUID corresponds to at least one service provider or customer backend of the health gateway;

determine, before establishing a communications connection with the health gateway, whether the health gateway is suitable based at least in part on the connection information and the service information, including the at least one service UUID, in combination with manufacturer-specific data of the wireless device, the manufacturer-specific data comprising a device model of the wireless device and a manufacturing company of the wireless device; and

in response to a determination that the health gateway is suitable, establish a communications connection with the health gateway.

The wireless device of claim 7 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable is based at least in part on a compatibility between a service provider or a customer backend and the wireless device, the compatibility determined using the at least one service UUID, the device model of the wireless device, and the manufacturing company of the wireless device, the health gateway in communication with the service provider or the customer backend.

The wireless device of claim 7 , wherein the service information comprises a type of data processed by the health gateway or health gateway manufacturer-specific data, and wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable is further based at least in part on a type of data obtainable by the wireless device or determining that the health gateway manufacturer-specific data is compatible with the wireless device.

10. The wireless device of claim 7 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable comprises determining that the health gateway is not designated as unsuitable by the wireless device.

11. The wireless device of claim 7 , wherein the signal is received from a wireless access point in communication with the health gateway.

12. The wireless device of claim 7 , wherein the wireless device comprises a medical device.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising processor-executable instructions for dynamic provisioning of a wireless device with a health gateway, the instructions configured to cause a processor to:

detect, by the wireless device, a signal from the health gateway, the signal including connection information and service information, the service information comprising at least one service universally unique identifier (“service UUID”), wherein the at least one service UUID corresponds to at least one service provider or customer backend of the health gateway;

determine, before establishing a communications connection with the health gateway, whether the health gateway is suitable based at least in part on the connection information and the service information, including the at least one service UUID, in combination with manufacturer-specific data of the wireless device, the manufacturer-specific data comprising a device model of the wireless device and a manufacturing company of the wireless device; and

in response to a determination that the health gateway is suitable, establish a communications connection with the health gateway.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable is based at least in part on a compatibility between a service provider or a customer backend and the wireless device, the compatibility determined using the at least one service UUID, the device model of the wireless device, and the manufacturing company of the wireless device, the health gateway in communication with the service provider or the customer backend.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the service information comprises a type of data processed by the health gateway or health gateway manufacturer-specific data, and wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable health gateway is further based at least in part on a type of data obtainable by the wireless device or determining that the health gateway manufacturer-specific data is compatible with the wireless device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein determining whether the health gateway is suitable comprises determining that the health gateway is not designated as unsuitable by the wireless device.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the signal is received from a wireless access point in communication with the health gateway.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the connection information comprises a Bluetooth Low-Energy (“BLE”) passcode and the service information comprises an identity of a cloud service provider.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the wireless device comprises a medical device.

20. A method for dynamic provisioning of a wireless device with a health gateway, the method comprising:

receiving, by the health gateway, a wireless signal from the wireless device, the wireless signal indicating information about the wireless device, the information about the wireless device comprising manufacturer-specific data of the wireless device, wherein the manufacturer-specific data of the wireless device comprises a device model of the wireless device and a manufacturing company of the wireless device;

determining, before establishing a communications connection with the health gateway, whether the wireless device is suitable based at least in part on the information about the wireless device, including the device model of the wireless device and the manufacturing company of the wireless device, in combination with a service universally unique identifier (“service UUID”) of the health gateway, wherein the service UUID corresponds to at least one service provider or customer backend of the health gateway; and

in response to a determination that the wireless device is suitable, establishing a communications connection with the wireless device.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein:

the wireless signal comprises an advertisement packet;

the information about the wireless device further comprises connection and service information; and

determining whether the wireless device is suitable is further based at least in part on the connection and service information.

22. The method of claim 20 , wherein the device model comprises a model identification number of the wireless device.

23. The method of claim 20 , wherein the wireless signal was transmitted with a signal strength configured to have a first transmission range.

24. The method of claim 23 , further comprising, after establishing the communications connection with the wireless device, transmitting a second wireless signal to the wireless device, the second wireless signal transmitted with a signal strength configured to have a second transmission range, the second transmission range greater than the first transmission range.

25. The method of claim 20 , further comprising, prior to receiving the wireless signal from the wireless device, broadcasting an advertising signal.

26. A wireless device comprising:

a wireless transceiver;

a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

a processor in communication with the non-transitory computer-readable medium and configured to:

receive, using the wireless transceiver, a wireless signal from a second wireless device, the wireless signal indicating information about the second wireless device, the information about the second wireless device comprising manufacturer-specific data of the second wireless device, wherein the manufacturer-specific data of the second wireless device comprises a device model of the second wireless device and a manufacturing company of the second wireless device;

determine, before establishing a communications connection with the health gateway, whether the second wireless device is suitable based at least in part on the information about the second wireless device, including the device model of the second wireless device and the manufacturing company of the second wireless device, in combination with a service universally unique identifier (“service UUID”) of the wireless device, wherein the service UUID corresponds to at least one service provider or customer backend of the wireless device; and

in response to a determination that the second wireless device is suitable, establish a communications connection with the second wireless device.

27. The wireless device of claim 26 , wherein: the wireless signal comprises an advertisement packet;

the information about the second wireless device further comprises connection and service information; and

the determination of whether the second wireless device is suitable is further based at least in part on the connection and service information.

28. The wireless device of claim 26 , wherein the device model comprises a model identification number of the second wireless device.

29. The wireless device of claim 26 , wherein the wireless signal was transmitted with a signal strength configured to have a first transmission range.

30. The wireless device of claim 29 , further comprising, after establishing the communications connection with the second wireless device, transmitting a second signal to the second wireless device, the second signal transmitted with a signal strength configured to have a second transmission range, the second transmission range greater than the first transmission range.

31. The wireless device of claim 26 , further comprising, prior to receiving the wireless signal from the second wireless device, broadcasting an advertising signal.
