Dosage forms for oral administration of zoledronic acid or related compounds for treating disease
Oral dosage forms of osteoclast inhibitors, such as zoledronic acid, in an acid or a salt form, can be used to treat or alleviate pain or related conditions.
1. A method of delivering zoledronic acid to the blood comprising orally administering a dosage form to a human being in need of treatment with zoledronic acid, wherein the dosage form comprises zoledronic acid, wherein the human being fasts for at least 2 hours before the dosage form is administered and the human being fasts for at least 1 hour after the dosage form is administered, and wherein the method results in a bioavailability of the zoledronic acid that is about 1.8% to about 2.3% in the human being.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat arthritis pain.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat low back pain.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the zoledronic acid is in a salt form.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the zoledronic acid is administered to treat an inflammatory pain.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the zoledronic acid is in a disodium salt form.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered about weekly.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the dosage form contains about 30 mg to about 100 mg of the zoledronic acid.
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat arthritis pain.
10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat low back pain.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered about 2 or 3 times in a month.
12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the dosage form contains about 50 mg to about 150 mg of the zoledronic acid.
13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat arthritis pain.
14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat low back pain.
15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered about once a month.
16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the dosage form contains about 100 mg to about 300 mg of the zoledronic acid.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat arthritis pain.
18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat low back pain.
19. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dosage form is administered daily.
20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the dosage form contains about 0.5 mg to about 10 mg of the zoledronic acid.
21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat arthritis pain.
22. The method of claim 20 , wherein the dosage form is administered to treat low back pain.
