Abstract

Articles and methods involving pasting papers and/or capacitance layers are generally provided. The pasting paper may comprise a capacitance layer, and/or a stand-alone capacitance layer may be provided. In some embodiments, a pasting paper may comprise a plurality of cellulose fibers, a plurality of multicomponent fibers, and a plurality of glass fibers. In some embodiments, a pasting paper may comprise a plurality of conductive species, a plurality of capacitive species, and/or a plurality of inorganic particles. In some embodiments, a pasting paper may be disposed on a battery paste, such as a battery paste for use in a lead-acid battery. In some cases, forming a battery plate may comprise disposing a pasting paper on a battery paste. In some cases, a lead-acid battery may be assembled by assembling a first battery plate comprising a pasting paper with a separator and a second battery plate.

Claims (44)

1 . A pasting paper for use in a battery, comprising:

a non-woven fiber web, comprising:

a plurality of cellulose fibers, wherein the plurality of cellulose fibers makes up greater than or equal to 20 wt % of the non-woven fiber web based on the total weight of the non-woven fiber web; and

a plurality of multicomponent fibers; and

a plurality of conductive species, wherein the plurality of conductive species comprises conductive fibers and/or conductive particles.

2 . A pasting paper as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises a plurality of glass fibers.

3 . A pasting paper as in any one of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of conductive species comprises conductive fibers.

4 . A pasting paper as in any one of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of conductive species comprises conductive particles.

5 . A pasting paper as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises the conductive species.

6 . A pasting paper as in claim 6 , wherein the pasting paper comprises a layer disposed on the non-woven fiber web comprising the conductive species.

7 . A pasting paper as in claim 1 , wherein the layer comprising the conductive species comprises a binder resin.

8 . A pasting paper as in claim 7 , wherein the conductive species is dispersed within the binder resin.

9 . A pasting paper as in claim 7 , wherein the binder resin makes up greater than or equal to 0.5 wt % and less than or equal to 30 wt % of the layer comprising the conductive species.

10 . A pasting paper for use in a battery, comprising:

a non-woven fiber web, comprising:

a plurality of cellulose fibers, wherein the plurality of cellulose fibers makes up greater than or equal to 20 wt % of the non-woven fiber web based on the total weight of the non-woven fiber web;

a plurality of multicomponent fibers; and

a plurality of glass fibers;

a plurality of conductive species; and

a plurality of capacitive species, wherein a ratio of the weight of the plurality of conductive species to the plurality of capacitive species is greater than or equal to 5:95 and less than or equal to 30:70.

11 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the plurality of conductive species comprises conductive fibers.

12 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the plurality of conductive species comprises conductive particles.

13 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises the conductive species.

14 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the pasting paper comprises a layer disposed on the non-woven fiber web comprising the conductive species.

15 . A pasting paper as in claim 14 , wherein the layer comprising the conductive species comprises a binder resin.

16 . A pasting paper as in claim 15 , wherein the conductive species is dispersed within the binder resin.

17 . A pasting paper as in claim 15 , wherein the binder resin makes up greater than or equal to 0.5 wt % and less than or equal to 30 wt % of the layer comprising the conductive species.

18 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the plurality capacitive species comprises capacitive fibers.

19 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the plurality of capacitive species comprises capacitive particles.

20 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises the capacitive species.

21 . A pasting paper as in claim 10 , wherein the pasting paper comprises a layer disposed on the non-woven fiber web comprising the capacitive species.

22 . A pasting paper as in claim 21 , wherein the layer disposed on the non-woven fiber web comprising the capacitive species comprises the conductive species.

23 . A pasting paper as in of claim 21 , wherein the layer comprising the capacitive species comprises a binder resin.

24 . A pasting paper as in claim 23 , wherein the capacitive species is dispersed within the binder resin.

25 . A pasting paper as in claim 24 , wherein the binder resin makes up greater than or equal to 0.5 wt % and less than or equal to 30 wt % of the layer comprising the capacitive species.

26 . A battery, comprising:

a battery plate comprising an active mass comprising lead;

a layer, comprising:

a plurality of conductive species; and

a plurality of capacitive species,

wherein:

a ratio of a weight of the plurality of conductive species to a weight of a plurality of capacitive species is greater than or equal to 5:95 and less than or equal to 30:70; and
