Abstract

Methods, devices, and systems for tracking an asset are provided. In particular, a device is provided that includes a processor; a wide-area network radio; an accelerometer; a physical interface; and a computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform steps. The processor receives first information from the accelerometer. The processor receives second information from one or more sensors via the physical interface. The processor determines a first security risk level based on the received first information and the received second information. The processor transmits location information to a cloud-based server via the wide-area network radio. The processor receives a second security risk level. The processor determines a security risk event has occurred. The processor records data related to the security risk event in memory.

Claims (46)

1 . A computer system comprising:

a processor;

a wide-area network radio;

a first sensor;

a physical interface in communication with a second sensor; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing computer-readable instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform:

receiving first information from the first sensor;

receiving second information from the second sensor via the physical interface;

determining a first security risk level based on the received first information and the received second information;

transmitting location information to a cloud-based server via the wide-area network radio;

in response to the location information, receiving a second security risk level;

based on the first security risk level and the second risk level, determining a security risk event has occurred; and

based on the determination that the security risk event has occurred, recording data related to the security risk event in memory.

2 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the second security risk level is associated with historical accident data associated with the location information.

3 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the second security risk level is associated with one or more of traffic data, historical theft data, and police data.

4 . The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising generating the location information via one of a GPS and the wide-area network radio.

5 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the second sensor comprises one or more of a motion sensor, a light sensor, a sound sensor, a wireless door sensor, and a load sensor.

6 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the security risk event is one or more of a stopping of a vehicle associated with the computer system, a change in a load of the vehicle, a light detection, an opening of a door, and a particular noise pattern.

7 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the security risk event is associated with risky driver behavior.

8 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to perform, prior to receiving second information from the second sensor via the physical interface, activating the second sensor based on the first information.

9 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the first information is associated with a stopping of a vehicle associated with the computer system.

10 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a processor of a computer system, first information from an accelerometer of the computer system;

receiving, by the processor, second information from one or more sensors via a physical interface of the computer system;

determining, by the processor, a first security risk level based on the received first information and the received second information;

transmitting, by the processor, location information to a cloud-based server via a wide-area network radio of the computer system;

in response to the location information, receiving, by the processor, a second security risk level;

based on the first security risk level and the second risk level, determining, by the processor, a security risk event has occurred; and

based on the determination that the security risk event has occurred, recording, by the processor, data related to the security risk event in memory.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the second security risk level is associated with historical accident data associated with the location information.

12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the second security risk level is associated with one or more of traffic data, historical theft data, and police data.

13 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising generating the location information via one of a GPS and the wide-area network radio.

14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more sensors comprise one or more of a motion sensor, a light sensor, a sound sensor, a wireless door sensor, and a load sensor.

15 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the security risk event is one or more of a stopping of a vehicle associated with the computer system, a change in a load of the vehicle, a light detection, an opening of a door, and a particular noise pattern.

16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the security risk event is associated with risky driver behavior.

17 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising, prior to receiving second information from one or more sensors via the physical interface, activating, by the processor, one or more of the one or more sensors based on the first information.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the first information is associated with a stopping of a vehicle associated with the computer system.

19 . A computer program product comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-readable program code embodied therewith, the computer-readable program code configured when executed by a processor of a computer system to:

receive second information from one or more sensors via a physical interface of the computer system;

determine a first security risk level based on the received first information and the received second information;

transmit location information to a cloud-based server via a wide-area network radio of the computer system;

in response to the location information, receive a second security risk level;

based on the first security risk level and the second risk level, determine a security risk event has occurred; and

based on the determination that the security risk event has occurred, record data related to the security risk event in memory.

20 . The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the second security risk level is associated with historical accident data associated with the location information.
