Abstract

In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for monitoring data activity utilizing a shared data store. These mechanisms and methods for monitoring data activity utilizing a shared data store can enable enhanced data monitoring, more efficient data storage, improved system resource utilization, etc.

Claims (37)

1. A computer program product, comprising a non-transitory computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, the computer readable program code adapted to be executed by a computer to implement a method comprising:

identifying, by a system, data activity performed across multiple servers, the data activity associated with at least one entity external to the system;

storing, within a distributed memory cache of the system that is shared by the multiple servers, information indicating the identified data activity;

storing, within a database of the system that is shared by the multiple servers, the information;

retrieving, by the system from the distributed memory cache, a portion of the information associated with a particular time interval;

using, by the system, the retrieved portion of the information to generate a profile for the particular time interval; and

reporting, by the system, the generated profile for the particular time interval.

2. The computer program product of claim 1 , further comprising performing interval based limiting associated with the at least one entity based on the retrieved portion of the information, including:

comparing a characteristic of the data activity to a threshold; and

performing one or more actions by the system based on a result of the comparing.

3. The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein performing the one or more actions by the system further comprises blocking or redirecting one or more resources of the system.

4. The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein performing the one or more actions by the system further comprises creating a billing statement.

5. The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein performing the one or more actions by the system further comprises denying a request for data from a customer or function associated with the at least one entity.

6. The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein performing the one or more actions by the system further comprises enforcing a constraint associated with the at least one entity for at least one resource of the system based on a result of the comparing.

7. The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the constraint comprises an elastic or static constraint.

8. The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein enforcing the constraint associated with the at least one entity for at least one resource of the system further comprises controlling access by the at least one entity to the at least one resource of the system.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein controlling access by the at least one entity to the at least one resource of the system comprises blocking a request associated with the at least one entity.

10. The computer program product of claim 1 , wherein comparing the characteristic of the data activity to the threshold comprises checking whether an amount of the data activity exceeds the threshold.

11. A database system, comprising:

a plurality of servers and a distributed memory cache shared by the servers; and

a processor configured to:

identify data activity performed across multiple servers, the data activity associated with at least one entity external to the database system;

store, within the distributed memory cache, information indicating the identified data activity;

retrieve, from the distributed memory cache, a portion of the information associated with a particular time interval;

generate a profile for the particular time interval based on the retrieved portion of the information; and

report the generated profile for the particular time interval.

12. The database system of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further configured to perform interval based limiting associated with the at least one entity based on the retrieved portion of the information, including:

compare a characteristic of the data activity to a threshold; and

perform one or more actions associated with the database system based on a result of the compare the characteristic of the data activity to the threshold.

13. The database system of claim 12 , wherein perform the one or more actions associated with the database system further comprises block or redirect one or more resources of the database system.

14. The database system of claim 12 , wherein perform the one or more actions associated with the database system further comprises deny a request for data from a customer or function associated with the at least one entity.

15. The database system of claim 12 , wherein perform the one or more actions associated with the database system further comprises enforce a constraint associated with the at least one entity for at least one resource of the database system based on a result of the compare the characteristic of the data activity to the threshold.

16. The database system of claim 15 , wherein the constraint comprises an elastic or static constraint.

17. The database system of claim 15 , wherein enforce the constraint associated with the at least one entity for at least one resource of the database system further comprises control access by the at least one entity to the at least one resource of the database system.

18. The database system of claim 17 , wherein control access by the at least one entity to the at least one resource of the database system comprises block a request associated with the at least one entity.

19. The database system of claim 18 , wherein the request comprises an application program interface (API).

20. The database system of claim 12 , wherein compare the characteristic of the data activity to the threshold comprises check whether an amount of the data activity exceeds the threshold.
