Abstract

Provided is a process for producing a polymer composite film, comprising the steps of: (a) mixing a phthalocyanine compound with a polymer or its precursor and a liquid to form a slurry and forming the slurry into a wet film on a solid substrate, wherein the polymer is preferably selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyoxadiazole, polybenzoxazole, polybenzobisoxazole, polythiazole, polybenzothiazole, polybenzobisthiazole, poly(p-phenylene vinylene), polybenzimidazole, polybenzobisimidazole, and combinations thereof; and (b) removing the liquid from the wet film and, in some embodiments, converting the precursor to the polymer to form the polymer composite film comprising from 0.1% to 50% by weight of the phthalocyanine compound dispersed in the polymer.

Claims (19)

1. A process for producing a polymer composite film, comprising the steps of:

(a) mixing a phthalocyanine compound with a precursor of a polymer and a liquid to form a slurry or suspension and forming said slurry or suspension into a wet film on a solid substrate, wherein said polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyoxadiazole, polybenzoxazole, polybenzobisoxazole, polythiazole, polybenzothiazole, polybenzobisthiazole, poly(p-phenylene vinylene), polybenzimidazole, polybenzobisimidazole, and combinations thereof; and

(b) removing said liquid from said wet film and converting said precursor to form said polymer composite film comprising from 0.1% to 50% by weight of said phthalocyanine compound dispersed in said polymer;

wherein polymer composite film has a tensile modulus of at least 3000 MPa or a dielectric strength of at least 1500 V/mil.

2. The process of claim 1 , wherein said phthalocyanine compound is selected from copper phthalocyanine, zinc phthalocyanine, tin phthalocyanine, iron phthalocyanine, lead phthalocyanine, nickel phthalocyanine, vanadyl phthalocyanine, fluorochromium phthalocyanine, magnesium phthalocyanine, manganous phthalocyanine, dilithium phthalocyanine, aluminum phthalocyanine chloride, cadmium phthalocyanine, chlorogallium phthalocyanine, cobalt phthalocyanine, silver phthalocyanine, a metal-free phthalocyanine, or a combination thereof.

3. The process of claim 1 , further comprising adding a pigment to said slurry or suspension wherein said pigment is selected from graphene, humic acid, expanded graphite flakes, fine carbon black particles, or a combination thereof.

4. The process of claim 1 , wherein said step of forming said wet film is conducted under the influence of an orientation-inducing stress field to align molecules of said phthalocyanine compound along a desired direction.

5. The process of claim 1 , wherein said step (b) comprises polymerizing or curing said precursor to form said polymer.

6. The process of claim 1 , wherein said step of forming a wet film is conducted by casting, spraying, printing, painting, or coating.

7. The process of claim 1 which contains a roll-to-roll procedure.

8. A process for producing a polymer composite film, comprising the steps of:

(c) mixing a phthalocyanine compound with a polymer and a liquid to form a slurry or suspension and forming said slurry or suspension into a wet film on a solid substrate, wherein said polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyimide, polyamide, polyoxadiazole, polybenzoxazole, polybenzobisoxazole, polythiazole, polybenzothiazole, polybenzobisthiazole, poly(p-phenylene vinylene), polybenzimidazole, polybenzobisimidazole, and combinations thereof; and

(d) removing said liquid from said wet film to form said polymer composite film comprising from 0.1% to 50% by weight of said phthalocyanine compound dispersed in said polymer;

wherein polymer composite film has a tensile modulus of at least 3000 MPa or a dielectric strength of at least 1500 V/mil; and

which contains a roll-to-roll procedure.

9. The process of claim 8 , wherein said phthalocyanine compound is selected from copper phthalocyanine, zinc phthalocyanine, tin phthalocyanine, iron phthalocyanine, lead phthalocyanine, nickel phthalocyanine, vanadyl phthalocyanine, fluorochromium phthalocyanine, magnesium phthalocyanine, manganous phthalocyanine, dilithium phthalocyanine, aluminum phthalocyanine chloride, cadmium phthalocyanine, chlorogallium phthalocyanine, cobalt phthalocyanine, silver phthalocyanine, a metal-free phthalocyanine, or a combination thereof.

10. The process of claim 8 , further comprising adding a pigment to said slurry or suspension wherein said pigment is selected from graphene, humic acid, expanded graphite flakes, fine carbon black particles, or a combination thereof.

11. The process of claim 8 , wherein said step of forming said wet film is conducted under the influence of an orientation-inducing stress field to align molecules of said phthalocyanine compound along a desired direction.

12. The process of claim 8 , wherein said step of forming a wet film is conducted by casting, spraying, printing, painting, or coating.
