Abstract

Wearable rubber parts for fluid handling systems include a four layer structure, wherein the inner most layer of the four layer structure is a polyurethane layer. The polyurethane can be millable polyurethane. The polyurethane used in the inner most layer can be produced by reacting diisolcyanate with a polyester and/or polyether polyols and a chain extender. The wearable rubber part can be an expansion joint, a pinch valve, or a hose.

Claims (24)

1. A flexible expansion joint comprising:

an inner most layer comprising polyurethane;

a reinforcement layer; and

an outer layer;

wherein the flexible expansion joint is a flowing arch expansion joint.

2. The flexible expansion joint of claim 1 , wherein the polyurethane is millable polyurethane.

3. The flexible expansion joint of claim 1 , wherein the inner most layer consists of polyurethane.

4. The flexible expansion joint of claim 1 , wherein the inner most layer comprises greater than 70 wt % polyurethane.

5. The flexible expansion joint of claim 1 , wherein the polyurethane of the inner most layer is produced by reacting diisocyanate with a polyol and a chain extender, and wherein the polyol is only or predominantly polyether polyols.

6. The flexible expansion joint of claim 1 , wherein the polyurethane of the inner most layer is produced by reacting diisocyanate with a polyol and a chain extender, and wherein the polyol includes polyester polyols.

7. The flexible expansion joint of claim 2 , wherein the reinforcement layer comprises fabric reinforcement material.

8. The flexible expansion joint of claim 2 , wherein the outer layer comprises an elastomeric compound.

9. A flexible expansion joint comprising:

an inner most layer comprising polyurethane;

a reinforcement layer; and

an outer layer;

wherein the flexible expansion joint is an abrupt arch expansion joint.

10. The flexible expansion joint of claim 9 , wherein the polyurethane is millable polyurethane.

11. The flexible expansion joint of claim 9 , wherein the inner most layer consists of polyurethane.

12. The flexible expansion joint of claim 9 , wherein the inner most layer comprises greater than 70 wt % polyurethane.

13. The flexible expansion joint of claim 9 , wherein the polyurethane of the inner most layer is produced by reacting diisocyanate with a polyol and a chain extender, and wherein the polyol is only or predominantly polyether polyols.

14. The flexible expansion joint of claim 9 , wherein the polyurethane of the inner most layer is produced by reacting diisocyanate with a polyol and a chain extender, and wherein the polyol includes polyester polyols.

15. The flexible expansion joint of claim 10 , wherein the reinforcement layer comprises fabric reinforcement material.

16. The flexible expansion joint of claim 10 , wherein the outer layer comprises an elastomeric compound.
