AUDIO CONTROL SYSTEM AND RELATED METHODS
Some embodiments of the invention are directed to an audio production system which is more portable, less expensive, faster to set up, and simpler and easier to use than conventional audio production tools. An audio production system implemented in accordance with some embodiments of the invention may therefore be more accessible to the typical user, and easier and more enjoyable to use, than conventional audio production tools.
1 . A method for use with a device, the method comprising acts of:
(A) accessing data representing recorded audio, the recorded audio having gain and pan attributes;
(B) causing the device to present a graphical user interface defining an X-Y coordinate system on which a cursor representing the recorded audio is positioned, the X-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system corresponding to one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio, the Y-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system corresponding to the other of the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio, the graphical user interface enabling a user to simultaneously modify both the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio by providing input to the screen to reposition the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system;
(C) receiving an input via the graphical user interface to reposition the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system;
(D) modifying at least one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute of the recorded audio in accordance with the input received in the act (C); and
(E) causing playback of the recorded audio using the at least one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute modified in the act (D).
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (A) comprises accessing data representing recorded audio defining a track in a multi-track recording.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the act (A) comprises accessing data representing a plurality of audio recordings, each defining a separate track in a multi-track recording;
the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface defining an X-Y coordinate system on which a plurality of cursors, each representing one of the plurality of audio recordings, is positioned, the graphical user interface enabling the user to simultaneously modify both a gain attribute and a pan attribute for one of the plurality of audio recordings by providing input to reposition the cursor corresponding to the one audio recording within the X-Y coordinate system.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (E) comprises causing a gain level for one or more amplifiers to be set so that the recorded audio can be replayed in a manner corresponding with the modified gain attribute.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (E) comprises causing a relative gain level for each of a plurality of amplifiers to be set so that the recorded audio can be replayed in a manner corresponding with the modified pan attribute.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present the graphical user interface on a screen, and wherein at least one axis of X-Y coordinate system is substantially parallel with an edge of the screen.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface which visually depicts at least one of the X-coordinate and the Y-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface which visually depicts at least one of the X-axis and the Y-axis defining the X-Y coordinate system.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (C) comprises receiving input to modify the Y-coordinate of the cursor, and the act (D) comprises modifying a gain attribute of the recorded audio.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the act (C) comprises receiving input to modify the X-coordinate of the cursor, and the act (D) comprises modifying a pan attribute of the recorded audio.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is configured to receive voice input from the user, and wherein the graphical user interface which is caused to be presented in the act (B) enables the user to modify one or both of a gain attribute and a pan attribute for the recorded audio by supplying voice input.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a mobile device comprising a screen configured to accept touch input from a user.
13 . At least one computer-readable storage medium having instructions encoded thereon which, when executed by at least one computer processor, cause the at least one computer processor to perform a method comprising acts of:
(A) accessing data representing recorded audio, the recorded audio having gain and pan attributes;
(B) causing a device to present a graphical user interface defining an X-Y coordinate system on which a cursor representing the recorded audio is positioned, the X-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system corresponding to one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio, the Y-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system corresponding to the other of the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio, the graphical user interface enabling a user to simultaneously modify both the gain attribute and the pan attribute for the recorded audio by providing input to the screen to reposition the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system;
(C) receiving an input via the graphical user interface to reposition the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system;
(D) modifying at least one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute of the recorded audio in accordance with the input received in the act (C); and
(E) causing playback of the recorded audio using the at least one of the gain attribute and the pan attribute modified in the act (D).
14 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (A) comprises accessing data representing recorded audio defining a track in a multi-track recording.
15 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:
the act (A) comprises accessing data representing a plurality of audio recordings, each defining a separate track in a multi-track recording;
the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface defining an X-Y coordinate system on which a plurality of cursors, each representing one of the plurality of audio recordings, is positioned, the graphical user interface enabling the user to simultaneously modify both a gain attribute and a pan attribute for one of the plurality of audio recordings by providing input to reposition the cursor corresponding to the one audio recording within the X-Y coordinate system.
16 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (E) comprises causing a gain level for one or more amplifiers to be set so that the recorded audio can be replayed in a manner corresponding with the modified gain attribute.
17 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (E) comprises causing a relative gain level for each of a plurality of amplifiers to be set so that the recorded audio can be replayed in a manner corresponding with the modified pan attribute.
18 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present the graphical user interface on a screen, and wherein at least one axis of X-Y coordinate system is substantially parallel with an edge of the screen.
19 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface which visually depicts at least one of the X-coordinate and the Y-coordinate for the cursor within the X-Y coordinate system.
20 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (B) comprises causing the device to present a graphical user interface which visually depicts at least one of the X-axis and the Y-axis defining the X-Y coordinate system.
21 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (C) comprises receiving input to modify the Y-coordinate of the cursor, and the act (D) comprises modifying a gain attribute of the recorded audio.
22 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the act (C) comprises receiving input to modify the X-coordinate of the cursor, and the act (D) comprises modifying a pan attribute of the recorded audio.
23 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the device is configured to receive voice input from the user, and wherein the graphical user interface which is caused to be presented in the act (B) enables the user to modify one or both of a gain attribute and a pan attribute for the recorded audio by supplying voice input.
24 . The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the device is a mobile device comprising a screen configured to accept touch input from a user.
