Abstract

A refrigerator is provided with an evaporator assembly located in a compartment. The evaporator assembly includes a pipe, a fan assembly, a plurality of fins, a first and second bracket. The pipe is configured to transport a refrigerant that exchanges heat with an air stream from the compartment. The plurality of fins is inserted on the pipe. The brackets each include apertures to receive bent end portions of the pipe. The brackets are configured to hold the pipe and the fins in a specific position, to mount the evaporator assembly within the compartment, and restrict the air stream exiting the evaporator assembly from mixing with the air stream entering the evaporator assembly. The fins include end fins that are placed in direct contact with the first end bracket and are configured to further restrict the air stream from flowing through the plurality of apertures of the brackets.

Claims (45)

1. An evaporator assembly for a refrigeration appliance comprising:

a pipe configured to transport a refrigerant, wherein the pipe has a plurality of bent end portions such that the pipe winds to form a plurality of rows;

a plurality of fins inserted on the pipe between the plurality of the bent end portions; and

a first end bracket and a second end bracket located at a first distance from the first end bracket, wherein the first end bracket and the second end bracket each include a plurality of apertures that are each configured to receive an associated bent end portion of the pipe,

wherein the plurality of fins includes a plurality of end fins that are placed in direct contact with the first end bracket and second end bracket and are configured to restrict an air stream from flowing through the plurality of apertures of the first end bracket and the second end bracket.

2. The evaporator assembly according to claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of end fins includes a first end fin inserted on a first row of the pipe and placed in direct contact with the first end bracket,

the plurality of end fins includes a second end fin inserted on a second row of the pipe and placed in direct contact with the first end bracket, and

the first end fin and second end fin are configured to restrict the air stream from flowing through a common aperture of the first end bracket.

3. The evaporator assembly according to claim 1 , wherein each aperture of the plurality of apertures is elongated to receive its associated bent end portion of the pipe.

4. The evaporator assembly according to claim 1 , further comprising a first gasket on the first end bracket and a second gasket on the second end bracket.

5. The evaporator assembly according to claim 4 , wherein the first gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the first end bracket, and the second gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the second end bracket.

6. An evaporator assembly for a refrigeration appliance comprising:

a pipe configured to transport a refrigerant, wherein the pipe has a plurality of bent end portions such that the pipe winds to form a plurality of rows;

a plurality of fins inserted on the pipe between the plurality of the bent end portions; and

a first end bracket and a second end bracket located at a first distance from the first end bracket, wherein the first end bracket and the second end bracket each include a plurality of apertures that are each configured to receive an associated bent end portion of the pipe,

wherein the plurality of fins includes a first end fin inserted on a first row of the pipe and a second end fin provided on a second row of the pipe, wherein the first end fin and the second end fin are configured to restrict an air stream from flowing through a common aperture of the plurality of apertures.

7. The evaporator assembly according to claim 6 , wherein the each aperture of the plurality of apertures is elongated to receive its associated bent end portion of the pipe.

8. The evaporator assembly according to claim 6 , further comprising a first gasket on the first end bracket and a second gasket on the second end bracket.

9. The evaporator assembly according to claim 8 , wherein the first gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the first end bracket, and the second gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the second end bracket.

10. A refrigeration appliance comprising:

a first compartment; and

an evaporator assembly located in the first compartment, the evaporator assembly including:

a pipe configured to transport a refrigerant, wherein the pipe has a plurality of bent end portions such that the pipe winds to form a plurality of rows,

a plurality of fins inserted on the pipe between the plurality of the bent end portions, and

a first end bracket and a second end bracket located at a first distance from the first end bracket, wherein the first end bracket and the second end bracket each include a plurality of apertures that are each configured to receive an associated bent end portion of the pipe,

wherein the plurality of fins includes a plurality of end fins that are placed in direct contact with the first end bracket and second end bracket and are configured to restrict an air stream from flowing through the plurality of apertures of the first end bracket and the second end bracket.

11. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 10 , wherein:

the plurality of end fins includes a first end fin inserted on a first row of the pipe and placed in direct contact with the first end bracket,

the plurality of end fins includes a second end fin inserted on a second row of the pipe and placed in direct contact with the first end bracket, and

the first end fin and second end fin are configured to restrict the air stream from flowing through a common aperture of the first end bracket.

12. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 10 , wherein each aperture of the plurality of apertures is elongated to receive its associated bent end portion of the pipe.

13. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 10 , wherein the first end bracket and the second end bracket are mounted to a liner of the first compartment.

14. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 13 , further comprising a first gasket on the first end bracket and a second gasket on the second end bracket.

15. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 14 , wherein the first gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the first end bracket, and the second gasket is provided on a first edge and second edge of the second end bracket.

16. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 14 , wherein the first gasket and second gasket are configured to separate the first end bracket and second end bracket from the liner of the first compartment to prevent a formation of frost on the liner.

17. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 13 , further comprising a cover that overlies the evaporator assembly and defines an air passage between the liner, the cover, the first end bracket, and the second end bracket.

18. The refrigeration appliance according to claim 17 , further comprising a first gasket on the first end bracket and a second gasket on the second end bracket,
