Abstract

The present invention comprises a sterilizing wrap system comprising a base having a support surface and a first sealing surface spaced from the support surface, the support surface supports at least one object requiring sterilization. A wrap is sized to engage the first sealing surface of the base to define a volume encompassing the support surface and the spaced first sealing surface of the base. A first seal maintains a sealed interface between the wrap and the first sealing surface.

Claims (35)

1. A sterilizing wrap system for sterilizing at least one object requiring sterilization in a sterilizer, the sterilizing wrap system comprising:

(a) a base having a support surface and a first sealing surface, the support surface configured to support at least one object requiring sterilization;

(b) a wrap sized to overlie the first sealing surface of the base and the object requiring sterilization; and

(c) a sealed interface between the wrap and the first sealing surface, the sealed interface configured to form a continuous seal between the wrap and the first sealing surface, the wrap and the first sealing surface defining a volume encompassing the at least one object requiring sterilization wherein the wrap includes a first portion of a first material having an area configured to overlie at least the support surface, and a second portion of a second material having an area configured to overlie at least the first sealing surface of the base, wherein the first material is a filter material and the second material is a flexible material.

2. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , further comprising a clamp, and wherein the first sealing surface of the base is a channel at least partially extending circumferentially around the base, wherein the channel is sized to receive at least a portion of the clamp.

3. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the base further comprises a second sealing surface spaced from the first sealing surface, and further comprising a second sealed interface between the wrap and the second sealing surface.

4. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the wrap is a bag formed of the first material, the bag having a flexible collar formed of the second material for expanding to dispose the wrap over the first sealing surface of the base in an install position and for applying tension to the first sealing surface of the base in a deployed position.

5. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the second material is configured to form the sealed interface and further comprising a clamp for maintaining the sealed interface between the wrap and the first sealing surface.

6. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 2 , wherein the base is an operating room back table and wherein the base includes a skirt, the skirt having the channel for receiving at least a portion of-the clamp.

7. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the support surface is a first portion of the base.

8. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the base further comprises wrap supports extending from the base, the wrap supports being at least one of collapsible and removeable.

9. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 7 , wherein the first portion of the base is a tray for holding at least one object requiring sterilization, or wherein the first portion of the base comprises trays, racks, frames, or shelves arranged to hold at least one object requiring sterilization.

10. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 8 wherein the wrap supports include sidewalls and a top shelf spaced from the support surface of the base.

11. The sterilizing wrap system claim 7 , further comprising a frame operatively connected to the base, the frame having a plurality of struts forming front, back, top, and side portions, wherein the front, the back, the top and the side portions define a hollow center portion.

12. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 11 , wherein the frame is removeable from the base.

13. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the support surface of the base is sloped.

14. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the support surface or at least one of the first and a second sealing surfaces of the base includes a drain.

15. A single-use wrap system for use in a sterilizer for the sterilization of objects requiring sterilization, the system comprising:

(a) a rigid base formed of a material adapted to withstand exposure to a sterilizing agent, the base having (i) a support surface having a portion configured to support the objects requiring sterilization, and (ii) a first sealing surface;

(b) a wrap sized to overlie the support surface and having a wrap perimeter corresponding with the first sealing surface; and

(c) a continuous seal between the first sealing surface and the wrap perimeter, the continuous seal forming a continuous sealed interface between the wrap and the base wherein the wrap includes a first portion of a first material having an area configured to overlie at least the support surface, and a second portion of a second material having an area configured to overlie at least the first sealing surface of the base, wherein the first material is a filter material and the second material is a flexible material.

16. The single-use wrap system of claim 15 , wherein the support surface is a tray.

17. The single-use wrap system of claim 15 , wherein the base includes a plurality of wheels configured to move the base.

18. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the sealed interface includes a tape.

19. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the sealed interface is configured to seal the volume encompassing the at least one object requiring sterilization relative to the first sealing surface.

20. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the base includes a plurality of wheels configured to move the base.

21. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the wrap further comprises a wrap portion comprising at least one wrap segment moveable into an open position for accessing the at least one object.

22. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 21 , wherein the at least one segment at least partially separates from the wrap portion in the open position.

23. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 21 , wherein the wrap portion in the open position is draped away from the at least one object while maintaining the sealed interface between the wrap and the first sealing surface.

24. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 1 , wherein the wrap further comprises a wrap portion comprising a plurality of wrap segments moveable into an open position for accessing the at least one object, wherein at least one of the plurality of segments comprises a material that is different from the other wrap segments.

25. The sterilizing wrap system of claim 24 , wherein the wrap portion in the open position comprises the plurality of wrap segments draped away from the at least one object while maintaining the sealed interface between the wrap and the first sealing surface.

26. A sterilizing wrap system for sterilizing at least one object requiring sterilization in a sterilizer, the sterilizing wrap system comprising:

(a) a base having a support surface and a first sealing surface, the support surface configured to support at least one object requiring sterilization;

(b) a wrap sized to overlie the first sealing surface of the base and the object requiring sterilization; and

(c) a continuous seal between the first sealing surface of the base and the wrap, the continuous seal forming a continuous sealed interface between the wrap and the base to define an enclosed volume encompassing the at least one object requiring sterilization wherein the wrap includes a first portion of a first material having an area configured to overlie at least the support surface, and a second portion of a second material having an area configured to overlie at least the first sealing surface of the base, wherein the first material is a filter material and the second material is a flexible material.
