Abstract

An apparatus is disclosed which includes an electrolytic capacitive element with multiple capacitor sections, a pressure interrupter cover assembly, and a conductor configured to electrically connect a common terminal of the multiple capacitor sections to a common cover terminal. Each first terminal of the multiple capacitor sections is electrically connected to one of a plurality of capacitor cover terminals.

Claims (28)

1. An apparatus comprising:

an electrolytic capacitive device housed in a case, the electrolytic capacitive device having a plurality of capacitor sections, wherein i) each of the plurality of capacitor sections has a first terminal, and ii) the plurality of capacitor sections share a common terminal;

a pressure interrupter cover assembly comprising:

a deformable cover mountable to the case;

a plurality of capacitor cover terminals, each of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals having at least one contact extending from the deformable cover, wherein the deformable cover is configured to displace at least one of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals based upon an operative failure of the electrolytic capacitive device;

a common cover terminal having at least one contact extending from the deformable cover; and

a plurality of insulation structures, wherein each of the plurality of insulation structures is configured to provide insulation for at least one of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals; and

a conductor configured to electrically connect the common terminal of the plurality of capacitor sections to the common cover terminal,

wherein each of the first terminals of the plurality of capacitor sections is electrically connected to one of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value of greater than about 60 microfarads.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value of about 67.8 microfarads.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value of greater than about 300.0 microfarads.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value of about 325 microfarads.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the capacitor sections is provided by a section of the electrolytic capacitive device.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electrolytic capacitive device is cylindrically wound.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein selective connections of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals provide at least two hundred operable capacitance values.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , the apparatus being configured for use by a compressor motor of an air-conditioning system and for use by a fan motor of the air-conditioning system.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises four capacitor sections.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of insulation structures is cup shaped.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein four of the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value greater than about 245.0 microfarads and two of the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value greater than about 55.5 microfarads.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the common cover terminal includes at least two blades.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of capacitor cover terminals includes fewer than four blades.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the insulation structures includes an insulator cup.

16. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the case is configured to receive a fill fluid.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the case and the deformable cover are metallic.

18. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least two of the plurality of insulation structures are colored.

19. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least five of the plurality of insulation structures are differently colored.

20. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein four of the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value greater than about 245.0 microfarads and the remainder of the plurality of capacitor sections have a combined capacitance value greater than about 55.5 microfarads.
