Abstract

Systems are provided for generating data representing electromagnetic states of a heart for medical, scientific, research, and/or engineering purposes. The systems generate the data based on source configurations such as dimensions of, and scar or fibrosis or pro-arrhythmic substrate location within, a heart and a computational model of the electromagnetic output of the heart. The systems may dynamically generate the source configurations to provide representative source configurations that may be found in a population. For each source configuration of the electromagnetic source, the systems run a simulation of the functioning of the heart to generate modeled electromagnetic output (e.g., an electromagnetic mesh for each simulation step with a voltage at each point of the electromagnetic mesh) for that source configuration. The systems may generate a cardiogram for each source configuration from the modeled electromagnetic output of that source configuration for use in predicting the source location of an arrhythmia.

Claims (56)

1. A method performed by one or more computing systems for generating derived electromagnetic data for an electromagnetic source within a body, the method comprising:

for each of a plurality of first models of the electromagnetic source,

running a first simulation based on that first model to generate modeled electromagnetic output for that first model of the electromagnetic source over time using a computational model, that first model based on a first source configuration specifying a first anatomy;

accessing a second model of the electromagnetic source based on a second source configuration specifying a second anatomy;

generating derived electromagnetic data for the second model of the electromagnetic source based on the modeled electromagnetic output for that first model of the electromagnetic source, factoring in differences between the first anatomy and the second anatomy to avoid running a second simulation for a second model based on the second source configuration; and

mapping the derived electromagnetic data for the second model to data derived from the first source configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the electromagnetic source is a heart and the derived electromagnetic data is a cardiogram.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the cardiogram is a vectorcardiogram.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the cardiogram is an electrocardiogram.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output for a first model includes, for each of a plurality of time intervals, an electromagnetic mesh with a modeled electromagnetic value for each of a plurality of vertices of the electromagnetic mesh.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output is a collection of voltage solutions.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the generating of the derived electromagnetic data for the second model of the electromagnetic source includes generating modeled electromagnetic output for the second model by:

generating a three-dimensional mesh based on the second anatomy;

for each simulation step of a simulation based on the first anatomy that generated the modeled electromagnetic output for the first model, and for each point of a three-dimensional mesh of that simulation step, setting a value of a corresponding point of the generated three-dimensional mesh to the value of that point; and

generating the derived electromagnetic data for the second model from the values of the three-dimensional mesh based on the second anatomy.

8. One or more computing systems for generating a cardiogram for a heart, the one or more computing systems comprising:

one or more computer-readable storage mediums storing:

a modeled electromagnetic output for a first arrhythmia model of a heart, the first arrhythmia model associated with a first anatomy, the modeled electromagnetic output generated by running a simulation of electrical activity of a heart based on the first anatomy;

one or more second arrhythmia models that is each associated with a second anatomy, each second anatomy being different from the first anatomy; and

computer-executable instructions for controlling the one or more computing systems to, for one or more of the second arrhythmia models, generate a cardiogram for that second arrhythmia model based on the modeled electromagnetic output for the first arrhythmia model factoring in differences between the first anatomy and that second anatomy associated with that second arrhythmia model to avoid running a simulation for each of the one or more second arrhythmia models; and

one or more processors for executing one or more of the computer-executable instructions stored in the one or more computer-readable storage mediums.

9. The one or more computing systems of claim 8 wherein the cardiogram is a vectorcardiogram.

10. The one or more computing systems of claim 8 wherein the cardiogram is an electrocardiogram.

11. The one or more computing systems of claim 8 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output for an arrhythmia model includes, for each of a plurality of time intervals, an electromagnetic mesh with a modeled electromagnetic value for each of a plurality of vertices of the electromagnetic mesh.

12. The one or more computing systems of claim 8 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output is a collection of voltage solutions.

13. The one or more computing systems of claim 8 wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions that generate a cardiogram:

for one or more of the second arrhythmia models, generate modeled electromagnetic output for that second arrhythmia model by:

generating a second three-dimensional mesh based on the second anatomy that is associated with that second arrhythmia model;

for each simulation step of the simulation based on the first anatomy that generated the modeled electromagnetic output for the first arrhythmia model, and for one or more first points of a first three-dimensional mesh of that simulation step, setting a value of a corresponding point of the second three-dimensional mesh to a value that is based on the value of that first point of the first three-dimensional mesh; and

generating the cardiogram from the values of the second three-dimensional mesh.

14. One or more computing systems for generating a cardiogram for a heart, the one or more computing systems comprising:

one or more computer-readable storage mediums storing:

a first voltage solution for a first arrhythmia model of a heart, the first arrhythmia model based on a first anatomy, the first voltage solution generated using a computational model of a heart based on the first arrhythmia model;

a second anatomy of a second arrhythmia model; and

computer-executable instructions for controlling the one or more computing systems to:

generate a second voltage solution for the second arrhythmia model by:

generating a second three-dimensional mesh based on the second anatomy; and

for each simulation step of a simulation that generated the first voltage solution based on first anatomy, and for each first point of a first three-dimensional mesh of that simulation step, setting a value of a corresponding second point of the second three-dimensional mesh to a value based on the value of that point; and

generate a cardiogram based on the second voltage solution; and

one or more processors for executing one or more of the computer-executable instructions stored in the one or more computer-readable storage mediums.

15. A method performed by one or more computing systems for identifying a source location of an arrhythmia of a patient, the method comprising:

receiving a patient cardiogram collected from the patient;

identifying a simulated cardiogram associated with a source location of an arrhythmia, the identifying based on similarity of simulated cardiograms to the patient cardiogram, at least some of the simulated cardiograms being derived simulated cardiograms that are derived from first voltage solutions based on first anatomies generated from a first voltage solution for a first anatomy, at least some of the first voltage solutions generated from second voltage solutions for second anatomies, the second voltage solutions generated by simulating over time electrical activity of a heart based on the second anatomies;

outputting an indication of the source location associated with the identified simulated cardiogram.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein at least some of the first voltage solutions for the first anatomies are generated based on:

generating a first three-dimensional mesh based on the first anatomy; and

for each simulation step of a simulation based on a second anatomy that generated the second voltage solution, and for second points of a second three-dimensional mesh of that simulation step, setting a value of a corresponding second point of the first three-dimensional mesh to the value of that second point.

17. One or more computing systems for generating a cardiogram, the one or more computing systems comprising:

one or more computer-readable storage mediums that store computer-executable instructions for controlling the one or more computing systems to: for each of a plurality of first models of a heart,

run a first simulation based on that first model to generate modeled electromagnetic output for that first model over time using a computational model, that first model based on a first source configuration specifying a first anatomy;

access a second model of a heart based on a second source configuration specifying a second anatomy;

generate a cardiogram for the second model based on the modeled electromagnetic output for that first model factoring in differences between the first anatomy and the second anatomy to avoid running a second simulation for a second model based on the second source configuration; and

map the cardiogram to data derived from the first source configuration; and

one or more processors for controlling the one or more computing systems to execute one or more of the computer-executable instructions.

18. The one or more computing systems of claim 17 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output for a first model includes, for each of a plurality of time intervals, an electromagnetic mesh with a modeled electromagnetic value for each of a plurality of vertices of the electromagnetic mesh.

19. The one or more computing systems of claim 17 wherein the modeled electromagnetic output is a collection of voltage solutions.
