Abstract

The present invention comprises methods and devices for providing contrast medium for sonography of structures such as ducts and cavities. The invention provides for creation of detectable acoustic variations between two generated phases of a gas and a liquid to make a contrast medium. Sonography is the primary means of imaging but other conventional detection means may also be employed with the present invention.

Claims (8)

1. A saline and gas contrast medium-forming device, comprising a container assembly comprising two syringes having the same volume, a first syringe for containing a gas and a second syringe for containing saline, two syringe plungers, each disposed in a respective syringe for, simultaneously moving saline or gas from the respective container in a 1:1 ratio of saline to gas; a connection between the two syringe plungers so that the saline and gas from the respective containers are moved simultaneously, fluid connections for connecting each of the two containers to a contrast pattern generating chamber, wherein the gas and saline form a contrast medium having a multiply repeating pattern of discrete, alternating pattern of a gas phase and a saline phase, and optionally comprising a catheter assembly in fluid connection with the container assembly.

2. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a syringe pump drive block attached to the connection between the two plungers or to each of the two plungers.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the saline further comprises a surfactant, emulsifier, stabilizing or dispersing agents.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one syringe is prefilled.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein both syringes are prefilled.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the contrast medium further comprises a therapeutic agent.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the gas comprises air, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, halocarbon compound gases, or a known contrast agent gas.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the contrast medium further comprises a surfactant, emulsifier, stabilizing or dispersing agents.
