Abstract

Some embodiments have a pump assembly mounted to or supported by a dressing for reduced pressure wound therapy. The dressing can have visual pressure, saturation, and/or temperature sensors to provide a visual indication of the level of pressure, saturation, and/or temperature within the dressing. Additionally, the pump assembly can have a pressure sensor in communication with the flow pathway through the pump, and at least one switch or button supported by the housing, the at least one switch or button being accessible to a user and being in communication with the controller. The pump assembly can have a controller supported within or by the housing, the controller being configured to control an operation of the pump. The pump can be configured to be sterilized following the assembly of the pump such that all of the components of the pump have been sterilized.

Claims (13)

1. A wound dressing kit for reduced pressure wound therapy, comprising:

a pump assembly;

a power source; and

a dressing member, wherein the pump assembly and the power source are supported by the dressing member; and

wherein the dressing member comprises one or more absorbent layers and a fluid impermeable backing layer and the pump assembly is positioned in a cutout that passes through the entire thickness of at least one of the absorbent layers;

wherein the dressing member comprises a pressure indicator configured to provide a visual and tactile indication of a level of pressure beneath the backing layer;

wherein the pressure indicator comprises a feature configured to protrude from a surface of the dressing member when the level of pressure beneath the backing layer has been achieved.

2. The wound dressing kit of claim 1 , wherein the dressing member comprises a transmission layer.

3. The wound dressing kit of claim 2 , wherein the transmission layer extends across the dressing member.

4. The wound dressing kit of claim 3 , wherein the pump assembly and power source are configured to be positioned over the transmission layer.

5. The wound dressing kit of claim 1 , wherein the dressing member comprises a wound contact layer and a transmission layer located above the wound contact layer wherein the transmission layer comprises an open air channel and the transmission layer is configured to ensure that the open air channel is maintained to communicate negative pressure over a wound area.

6. The wound dressing kit of claim 1 , wherein the pump assembly and power source are surrounded by a housing.

7. The wound dressing kit of claim 1 , wherein the feature is configured to provide a tactile change on the surface of the dressing member in response to the level of pressure beneath the backing layer.
