Abstract

An apparatus, method, and system are provided for binding application data associated with an application with content asset data associated with a content asset. In some embodiments, capacity or bandwidth for each of the application data and the content asset data may be allocated in accordance with one or more profiles. The one or more profiles may include horizontal aspects, vertical aspects, linear and non-linear aspects, and the like. In some embodiments, the binding may take place at a content provider location in accordance with early binding practices, at a central location in accordance with late binding practices, and/or at a user equipment device in accordance with user binding practices.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content asset data comprises at least one of audio data or video data, and wherein the content asset comprises an advertisement, and wherein the application data comprises an interactive television (iTV) application bound to the advertisement.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving feedback data based on a use of at least one of the transmitted content asset data or the transmitted application data;

modifying the at least one of the content asset data or the application data based at least in part on the feedback data; and

transmitting the modified at least one of the content asset data and the application data.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein modifying the at least one of the content asset data or the application data comprises selecting new application data based an analysis of the feedback data.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the new application data comprises a different version of the application data.

8. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:

determine, based on a duration of a content asset, allocation of capacity in a transmission for application data and content asset data associated with the content asset, wherein allocation of the application data is associated with a first proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a first segment of the content asset and with a second proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a second segment of the content asset, wherein the first proportion is different from the second proportion; and

cause transmission, via a server, of the content asset data and the application data based at least in part on the allocated capacity in the transmission.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:

bind the application data to the content asset data.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:

bind the application data to the content asset data at a user equipment device receiving the transmission.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the content asset data comprises at least one of audio data or video data, and wherein the content asset comprises an advertisement, and wherein the application data comprises an interactive television (iTV) application bound to the advertisement.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:

receive feedback data based on a use of at least one of the transmitted content asset data or the transmitted application data;

modify the at least one of the content asset data or the application data based at least in part on the feedback data; and

transmit the modified at least one of the content asset data or application data.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to modify the at least one of the content asset data and the application data by selecting new application data based an analysis of the feedback data.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the new application data comprises a different version of the application data.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

determining, based on a duration of a content asset, allocation of capacity in a transmission for application data and content asset data associated with the content asset, wherein allocation of the application data is associated with a first proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a first segment of the content asset and with a second proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a second segment of the content asset, wherein the first proportion is different from the second proportion; and

causing transmission, via a server, of the content asset data and the application data based at least in part on the allocated capacity in the transmission.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:

binding the application data to the content asset data.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:

binding the application data to the content asset data at a user equipment device receiving the transmission.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the content asset data comprises at least one of audio data and video data, and wherein the content asset comprises an advertisement, and wherein the application data comprises an interactive television (iTV) application bound to the advertisement.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:

receiving feedback data based on a use of at least one of the transmitted content asset data and the transmitted application data;

modifying the at least one of the content asset data and the application data based at least in part on the feedback data; and

transmitting the modified at least one of the content asset data and application data.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the modifying by causing: selecting new application data based an analysis of the feedback data.

21. A system comprising:

an apparatus comprising:

memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to:

determine, based on a duration of a content asset, allocation of capacity in a transmission for application data and content asset data associated with the content asset, wherein allocation of the capacity for the application data is associated with a first proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a first segment of the content asset and with a second proportion of the capacity of the transmission during a second segment of the content asset, wherein the first proportion is different from the second proportion; and

cause transmission, via a server, of the content asset data and the application data based at least in part on the allocated capacity in the transmission; and

a user device configured to receive the transmitted content asset data and the application data.

22. The system of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:

bind the application data to the content asset data.

23. The system of claim 21 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the apparatus to:
