Abstract

An implantable prosthetic valve includes an annular metallic frame and a valve assembly supported within the frame. The annular support frame is constructed with three longitudinal support beams of fixed length and web-like constructions that extend between and connect the support beams. The support beams are spaced apart in a substantially equidistant manner. The web-like constructions allow the annular support frame to be radially collapsible and expandable. Each support beam preferably has a column of pre-formed openings or bores extending along a length of the support beam. The valve assembly includes three valve leaflets, wherein each leaflet has opposing side portions and each side portion is paired with an adjacent side portion of an adjacent leaflet to form a commissure. The three commissures are secured to three respective support beams with stitching that extends through the leaflets and through the pre-formed openings or bores.

Claims (9)

1. An implantable prosthetic valve comprising:

a self-expandable annular metal frame comprising nickel-titanium, wherein the frame is radially collapsible and expandable, the frame comprising three longitudinal support beams of fixed length and a plurality of web-like constructions extending between and connected to the support beams, each support beam having a column of pre-formed openings spaced apart from each other along a length of the support beam, wherein the support beams are substantially equidistant from each other; and

a valve assembly comprising three valve leaflets, wherein each leaflet comprises opposing side portions, each side portion being paired with an adjacent side portion of an adjacent leaflet to form commissures that are secured to respective support beams with stitching that extends through the leaflets and the pre-formed openings, wherein each leaflet comprises a curved inlet edge and a straight outlet edge; and

a cuff portion disposed around an outer surface of the frame, wherein the cuff portion is positioned along an inlet portion of the frame;

wherein each support beam comprises first and second opposing end portions and the plurality of web-like constructions include first and second circumferentially-extending rows of angled struts, wherein the first row of struts is connected to the first end portions of the support beams and the second row of struts is connected to the second end portions of the support beams.

2. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the first row of struts defines an inlet end of the frame and the second row of struts defines an outlet end of the frame.

3. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the support beams and the web-like constructions are spaced the same radial distance from a longitudinal center axis of the frame along the entire lengths of the support beams.

4. The prosthetic valve of claim 3 , wherein the valve assembly includes a lower portion that is wrapped around an inflow edge of the frame to form the cuff portion along the inlet portion of the frame.

5. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the valve assembly further comprises an inner tubular portion secured to the inlet edge of each leaflet and to an interior surface of the frame.
