Compositions for Fecal Floral Transplantation and Methods for Making and Using Them and Devices for Delivering Them
In alternative embodiments, the invention provides compositions, e.g., formulations, used for gastric, gastrointestinal and/or colonic treatments or lavage, e.g., orthostatic lavage, e.g., for inducing the purgation (e.g., cleansing) of a gastrointestinal (GI) tract, including a colon; and methods for making and using them. In alternative embodiments, compositions and methods of the invention are used for the stabilization, amelioration, treatment and/or prevention of constipation, for the treatment of abdominal pain, particularly non-specific abdominal pain, and diarrhea, including diarrhea caused by a drug side effect, a psychological condition, a disease or a condition such as Crohn's Disease, a poison, a toxin or an infection, e.g., a toxin-mediated travelers diarrhea, or C. difficile or the pseudo-membranous colitis associated with this infection. In alternative embodiments, the invention provides pharmaceuticals and products (articles) of manufacture for delivering these compositions and formulations to an individual, e.g., a human or an animal. The invention also provides devices for delivering a fecal material to a patient.

44 . A stool collection device comprising a sealable container having an opening for receiving a stool from a human, wherein the container is configured to provide a reduced oxygen environment therein compared to the environment outside of the container.
45 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container is a flexible bag.
46 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container comprises a one way valve.
47 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container comprises a valve that can remove air from the container.
48 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the reduced oxygen environment is substantially oxygen free.
49 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container contains inert gas.
50 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the reduced oxygen environment is achieved via evacuating air from the container after receiving the stool.
51 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the reduced oxygen environment is achieved via replacing air with an inert gas.
52 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container comprises a screw-top lid.
53 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container comprises an oxygen-scavenging mechanism.
54 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the container contains an oxygen scavenger.
55 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the device further comprises a filter to remove particles of fecal matter from the stool.
56 . The device of claim 44 , wherein the device comprises a sealing mechanism for preventing the leak of fecal smell from the container.
57 . A stool collection device comprising a sterile container having an opening for receiving a stool from a human, wherein the container comprises a valve configured to allow air to be evacuated from the container.
58 . The device of claim 57 , wherein the container is a flexible bag.
59 . The device of claim 57 , wherein the valve is a one-way valve.
60 . The device of claim 57 , wherein the container comprises an oxygen-scavenging mechanism.
61 . A sampling kit comprising: a first device comprising a sealable container having an opening for receiving a stool from a human, wherein the container is configured to provide a reduced oxygen environment therein compared to the environment outside the container, and a second device for providing to the first device an agent selected from the group consisting of a buffer, a cryoprotectant, an antioxidant, and an oxygen scavenger material.
62 . The sampling kit of claim 61 , wherein the container is a flexible bag.
63 . The sampling kit of claim 61 , wherein the reduced oxygen environment is achieved via evacuating air from the container after receiving the stool.
