Abstract

POIs and content for POIs can be predicted for users based on a variety of factors, such as an analysis of their present path and directional changes, rates of changes, speed or other factors.

Claims (47)

1. A mobile device comprising:

a location subsystem;

a processor;

a memory component comprising a cache, and

a data store having stored instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to manage the memory component and point of interest information stored on the memory component, the stored instructions further being configured to cause the mobile device to perform the following:

the mobile device detecting position information with the location subsystem as a function of a position of the mobile device;

the mobile device detecting a speed of the mobile device;

the mobile device identifying point of interest information for a plurality of points of interest stored in the memory component;

the mobile device selecting one or more points of interest from the plurality of points of interest to make ready for presentation to a user according to a calculated proximity of the mobile device to the one or more points of interest;

the mobile device presenting point of interest information for the selected one or more point of interest; and

the mobile device automatically removing the point of interest information from the cache in response to determining that the point of interest information is no longer relevant based at least in part on the detected speed of the mobile device.

2. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device comprises a vehicle navigation device.

3. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is contained in a motorized vehicle.

4. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the selecting the one or more points of interest from the plurality of points of interest includes filtering out a subset of points of interest based on a determined time it is anticipated for the mobile device to reach the subset of points of interest.

5. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the selecting the one or more points of interest from the plurality of points of interest includes selecting the one or more points of interest based on a determined time it is anticipated for the mobile device to reach the one or more of points of interest.

6. The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device selects different points of interest for different detected speeds at a same detected position.

7. A mobile device comprising:

a location subsystem;

a processor;

a memory component comprising a cache, and

a data store having stored instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to manage the memory component and point of interest information stored on the memory component, the stored instructions further being configured to cause the mobile device to perform the following:

the mobile device detecting position information with the location subsystem as a function of a position of the mobile device;

the mobile device detecting a speed of the mobile device;

the mobile device identifying point of interest information for a plurality of points of interest stored in the memory component;

based on the detected speed and the detected position selecting a point of interest from the plurality of points of interest to make ready for presentation to a user;

the mobile device presenting point of interest information for the selected one or more point of interest; and

the mobile device automatically removing the point of interest information from the cache in response to determining that the point of interest information is no longer relevant based at least in part on the detected speed of the mobile device.

8. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the mobile device comprises a vehicle navigation device.

9. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the mobile device is contained in a motorized vehicle.

10. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the selecting the one or more points of interest from the plurality of points of interest includes filtering out a subset of points of interest based on a determined time it is anticipated for the mobile device to reach the subset of points of interest.

11. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the selecting the one or more points of interest from the plurality of points of interest includes selecting the one or more points of interest based on a determined time it is anticipated for the mobile device to reach the one or more of points of interest.

12. A mobile device comprising:

a location subsystem;

a processor;

a memory component comprising a cache, and

a data store having stored instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to manage the memory component and point of interest information stored on the memory component, the stored instructions further being configured to cause the mobile device to perform the following:

the mobile device detecting position information with the location subsystem as a function of a position of the mobile device;

the mobile device detecting a speed of the mobile device;

the mobile device identifying point of interest information for one or more point of interest stored in the memory component;

the mobile device, based on the detected speed of the mobile device, selecting point of interest information for presentation to a user for the one or more point of interest;

the mobile device presenting point of interest information for the selected one or more point of interest; and

the mobile device dynamically updating the point of interest information in the cache that is associated with the one or more point of interest based at least in part on the detected speed of the mobile device that is detected by the mobile device.

13. The mobile device of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device updates the point of interest information associated with the one or more point of interest in response to detecting a change in the detected speed of the mobile device.

14. The mobile device of claim 13 , wherein the mobile device removes the point of interest information in the cache when the point of interest information is no longer relevant based at least in part on a detected speed of the vehicle.

15. The mobile device of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device comprises a vehicle navigation device.

16. The mobile device of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device is contained in a motorized vehicle.

17. The mobile device of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device caches the point of interest information in a cache on the mobile device.
