Abstract

Systems and methods for electronically providing fitness activity feedback to a user are disclosed. The method may include collecting performance data, generating comparison data by comparing the respective performance and including identifying comparison performance data representative of performance differences, and displaying the comparison data and the comparison performance data.

Claims (41)

1. A method of controlling an exercise equipment, the method comprising:

mounting a first electronic device to the exercise equipment, the first electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, and a wireless communication transceiver;

networking the first electronic device with a second electronic device worn by a user to form a modular personal network;

collecting electronic user data comprising a performance parameter related to a fitness activity performed by the user on the exercise equipment

receiving the electronic user data on the first electronic device; and

sending a control command from the second electronic device worn by the user to the first electronic device mounted on the exercise equipment to control a function of the exercise equipment based on the electronic user data such that the performance parameter is maintained in a predetermined range.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: displaying a prompt on the display screen during the fitness activity.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the prompt comprises one of an electronic message to pedal faster or an electronic message to pedal slower.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the prompt comprises one of an electronic message instructing the user to sit or an electronic message to instruct the user to stand.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic user data is generated by the exercise equipment.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sending the control command alters a difficulty setting of the exercise equipment.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the sending the control command alters one of a resistance setting, a speed setting, and a slope setting of the exercise equipment.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performance parameter comprises a heart rate of the user.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performance parameter comprises a cadence of the user.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the performance parameter comprises a power of the user.

11. A controllable exercise equipment system, comprising:

a first electronic device configured to be mounted to an exercise equipment, the first electronic device comprising:

a first wireless communication transceiver,

a first display, and

a first processor

a second electronic device configured to be worn by a user of the exercise equipment, the second electronic device comprising:

a second wireless communication transceiver, and

a second processor; and

a sensor mounted on the exercise equipment that is configured to collect electronic user data comprising a performance parameter related to a fitness activity performed on the exercise equipment by the user,

wherein the second electronic device worn by the user is configured to send a control command to the first electronic device mounted on the exercise equipment to control a function of the exercise equipment based on the electronic user data such that the performance parameter is maintained at a constant level.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first processor is configured to display a prompt on the display during the fitness activity.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the prompt comprises an electronic message to the user to pedal faster, pedal slower, sit, or stand.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the electronic user data comprises one of speed, power, and heart rate.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control command is configured to alter a difficulty setting of the exercise equipment.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control command is configured to alter one of a resistance setting, a speed setting, and a slope setting of the exercise equipment.

17. A method of controlling an exercise equipment, the method comprising:

mounting a first electronic device to the exercise equipment, the first electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, and a wireless communication transceiver;

networking the first electronic device with a second electronic device worn by a user to form a modular personal network;

collecting electronic user data comprising a performance parameter related to a fitness activity performed by the user on the exercise equipment

receiving the electronic user data on the first electronic device;

sending a control command from the second electronic device worn by the user to the first electronic device mounted to the exercise equipment to control a function of the exercise equipment based on the electronic user data; and

displaying a prompt on the display screen during the fitness activity,

wherein the prompt comprises instructions for performing the fitness activity.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the electronic user data is generated by the exercise equipment during the fitness activity.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the sending the control command alters a difficulty setting of the exercise equipment.

20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the sending the control command alters one of a resistance setting, a speed setting, and a slope setting of the exercise equipment.
