Abstract

The various implementations described herein include methods, devices, and systems for obtaining and presenting personal and public search results. In one aspect, a method includes: (1) receiving a search query from a user; (2) extracting terms from the search query; (3) determining whether relevant notes exist within a personal database of the user by comparing the extracted terms to stored notes of the user within the personal database; (4) obtaining public search results for the search query; (5) obtaining search results information by analyzing the public search results; (6) determining whether additional relevant notes exist by comparing the search results information to the stored notes of the user; (7) preparing note information for the relevant notes; and (8) concurrently presenting at least a subset of the prepared note information and at least a subset of the public search results to the user.

Claims (70)

1. A method of presenting personal and public search results to a user, comprising:

at a computing system having memory and one or more processors:

receiving a search query from a user; and

in response to receiving the search query:

extracting one or more terms from the search query;

identifying one or more relevant private notes in a personal database of the user by comparing the extracted one or more terms from the search query to stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

obtaining public search results for the search query;

obtaining search results information by analyzing the public search results;

identifying one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user by comparing the search results information to the stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

preparing note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user; and

concurrently presenting to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stored private notes of the user comprise at least one of:

a business card;

an email;

a meeting note;

a reminder;

a photograph;

a wish-list;

a receipt; and

an audio note.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein concurrently presenting to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying at least a subset of the prepared note information on a webpage with at least a subset of the public search results.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying at least a subset of the prepared note information as a popup window or a link on a webpage.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying a preview of a first note of the one or more relevant private notes.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, in response to a user selection of the preview:

obtaining the first note from the personal database; and

presenting the first note to the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying a thumbnail of a first note of the one or more relevant private notes.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stored private notes of the user comprise notes previously saved to the personal database by the user.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the search query is received via a user entry in a web browser accessing a public search engine;

the one or more terms from the search query are extracted via an extension included in the web browser; and

one or more additional relevant private notes are determined automatically via the extension querying, distinctly from the public search engine, the personal database of the user.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein comparing the extracted one or more terms to the stored private notes of the user within the personal database comprises comparing the extracted one or more terms to information of the stored private notes of the user, the information including, for a first stored private note, one or more of:

one or more tags for the first stored private note;

a time associated with the first stored private note;

a geo-location associated with the first stored private note; and

content attributes of the first stored private note.

11. A computing system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:

receiving a search query from a user; and

in response to receiving the search query:

extracting one or more terms from the search query;

identifying one or more relevant private notes in a personal database of the user by comparing the extracted one or more terms from the search query to stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

obtaining public search results for the search query;

obtaining search results information by analyzing the public search results;

identifying one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user by comparing the search results information to the stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

preparing note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user; and

concurrently presenting to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein concurrently presenting to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying the at least a subset of the prepared note information on a webpage with the at least a subset of the public search results.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying at least a subset of the prepared note information as a popup window or a link on a webpage.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying a preview of a first note of the one or more relevant private notes.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying a thumbnail of a first note of the one or more relevant private notes.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the search query is received via a user entry in a web browser accessing a public search engine;

the one or more terms from the search query are extracted via an extension included in the web browser; and

one or more additional relevant private notes are determined automatically via the extension querying, distinctly from the public search engine, the personal database of the user.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a computing system, cause the computing system to:

receive a search query from a user; and

in response to receiving the search query:

extract one or more terms from the search query;

identifying one or more relevant private notes in a personal database of the user by comparing the extracted one or more terms from the search query to stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

obtain public search results for the search query;

obtain search results information by analyzing the public search results;

identify one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user by comparing the search results information to the stored private notes of the user within the personal database of the user;

prepare note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user; and

concurrently present to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information for the one or more relevant private notes in the personal database of the user and the one or more additional relevant private notes in the personal database of the user.

18. The storage medium of claim 17 , wherein concurrently presenting to the user at least a subset of the public search results and at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying the at least a subset of the prepared note information on a webpage with the at least a subset of the public search results.

19. The storage medium of claim 17 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying at least a subset of the prepared note information as a popup window or a link on a webpage.

20. The storage medium of claim 17 , wherein presenting to the user at least a subset of the prepared note information comprises displaying a preview of a first note of the one or more relevant private notes.
