Abstract

Method for applying an active component comprising providing a composition comprising: (a) at least one active component selected from a lubricating agent, an insecticidal agent, and an herbicidal agent; and (b) a carrier in an amount effective to solvate or emulsify said active component, said carrier comprising a monochlorotrifluoropropene; and removing the carrier from the composition.

Claims (26)

1. A method of providing a coating in the form of a paint comprising:

(a) providing at least a first surface to be coated;

(b) delivering a coating composition to said at least first surfaces, said coating composition comprising:

(ii) an active paint-forming component; and

(b) a carrier solvating and/or emulsifying said active paint-forming component, said carrier comprising a monochlorotrifluoropropene; and

(c) forming a layer of paint on said at least first surface by step(s) comprising evaporating said carrier.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said monochlorotrifluoropropene comprises 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233zd).

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene comprises trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

4. The method of claim 3 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene consists essentially of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said carrier further comprises a co-carrier in addition to said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene comprises cis-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (cis-HCFO-1233zd).

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said delivering step comprises spraying said coating composition.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene comprises trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

9. The method of claim 7 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene consists essentially of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

10. The method of claim 7 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene consists of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

11. The method of claim 10 wherein said carrier consists essentially of said cis trans-HCFO-1233zd.

12. A method for applying an active component to a surface comprising:

providing a composition comprising at least one active component selected from the group consisting of a coating agent, a lubricating agent, an insecticidal agent, and an herbicidal agent; and a carrier in an amount effective to solvate and/or emulsify said active component, said carrier comprising 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene;

applying the composition to the surface of a substrate; and

removing the carrier from the active component.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene comprises trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the carrier is removed by evaporation.

15. The method of claim 12 wherein the composition is applied to the substrate by a spray-on application.

16. The method of claim 12 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene comprises trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

17. The method of claim 12 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene consists essentially of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).

18. The method of claim 12 wherein said 1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene consists of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (trans-HCFO-1233zd).
