Abstract

A smart water management system fixture device is positioned on a water line. The device includes a measuring unit, an electronics unit, and an energy unit associated with a housing. The measurement unit includes an impeller of a turbine disposed in a water chamber and rotatable therein. The water chamber is positioned between an inlet and an outlet to define a fluid flow path. The measurement unit is in communication with the electronics unit. The electronics unit received information from one or more sensors and harvests electricity using the motion of the turbine and is in communication with an energy unit for story electricity.

Claims (17)

1. A method for managing water comprising:

receiving a flow of water through a water chamber from a water source at a smart water management system fixture device, the smart water management system fixture device comprising an impeller rotatable within the water chamber about an axle, a magnet substantially surrounding an end of the axle, and a coil exterior to the water chamber;

generating electricity from a turbine of the smart water management system fixture device in communication with the flow of water;

storing the electricity in a storage device associated with the smart water management system fixture device;

determining the rate of flow through the turbine of the smart water management system fixture device, the coil and magnet generating a frequency associated with the rate of flow; and

calculating a first volume of water passing through the smart water management system fixture device based upon the rate of flow and an elapsed time.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising calculating a second volume of water passing through the smart water management system fixture device based upon the rate of flow and a second elapsed time.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising comparing the first volume to the second volume.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing an alert if the first volume is above a predetermined threshold.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining water temperature at the smart water management system fixture device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining water quality smart water management system fixture device.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a report regarding the flow of water.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating electricity comprises the rotation of the impeller causing the magnet to move, the movement of the magnet inducing a current through the coil.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the flow of water is calculated by measuring at least one of number of rotations of the impeller, volume of the water chamber, and speed of rotation of the impeller.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the flow of water through the turbine recharges the smart water management system fixture device while being monitored by the smart water management system fixture device.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating an alert to a device of the user, the alert associated with the rate of flow through the water chamber.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the alert further comprises a characteristic of the flow of water through the water chamber, the characteristic comprising at least one of flow rate, volume, quality, and temperature.
