Abstract

A sunscreen composition comprised of one or more sunscreen active agents encapsulated in a cellulose derived capsule wherein the composition can contain one or more additional agents. A sunscreen composition can be mixed with a bodywash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, gel, soap, cream, hand sanitizer, spray or mousse and can be used by an individual during their normal hygiene processes, such as during a shower or bath or while applying a body product to their skin or hair.

Claims (25)

1. A sunscreen composition comprising:

a first flexible cellulose derived capsule, comprising:

one or more UVA sunscreen active agents, wherein each of the one or more UVA sunscreen active agents is present at 3% or less of the total weight of the sunscreen composition;

one or more UVB sunscreen active agents, wherein each of the one or more UVB sunscreen active agents is present at 15% or less of the total weight of the sunscreen composition; and

a flexible shell consisting of:

cellulose, or a salt thereof; a cellulose derivative selected from the group consisting of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose, and salts thereof; a derivative of hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose, and salts thereof, and any combination thereof,

wherein the first flexible cellulose derived capsule has a mean diameter of about 200 nm to about 750 nm.

2. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more UVA sunscreen active agents comprises a dibenzoylmethane.

3. The sunscreen composition of claim 2 , wherein the dibenzoylmethane comprises avobenzone.

4. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more UVB sunscreen active agents comprises a salicylate.

5. The sunscreen composition of claim 4 , wherein the salicylate comprises homosalate, octyl salicylate, or both.

6. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the first flexible cellulose derived capsule further comprises a polyamide polymer.

The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising a second cellulose derived capsule comprising water-insoluble emollient comprising fatty acids, wherein the second flexible cellulose derived capsule is present at a final percentage of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition.

8. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising a second cellulose derived capsule comprising a silicone oil, wherein the second flexible cellulose derived capsule is present at a final percentage of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition.

9. The sunscreen composition of claim 7 , further comprising a third cellulose derived capsule comprising a silicone oil, wherein the third flexible cellulose derived capsule is present at a final percentage of about 0.01% to about 7% of the total weight of the composition.

10. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising a film former, wherein the film former is present at a final percentage of about 1% to about 6% of the total weight of the composition.

11. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the film former comprises a polyquaternium.

The sunscreen composition of claim 11 , wherein the polyquaternium includes a Polyquaternium-1, a Polyquaternium-2, a Polyquaternium-4, a Polyquaternium-5, a Polyquaternium-6, a Polyquaternium-7, a Polyquaternium-8, a Polyquaternium-9, a Polyquaternium-10, a Polyquaternium-11, a Polyquaternium-12, a Polyquaternium-13, a Polyquaternium-14, or a Polyquaternium-15.

13. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more emollients, wherein each of the one or more emollients is present at a final percentage of about 0.25% to about 10% of the total weight of the composition.

14. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more antioxidant agents.

15. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more thickening agents, wherein each of the one or more thickening agents is present at a final percentage of about 0.5% to about 12% of the total weight of the composition.

16. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more non-polar waxes.

17. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen active agents, wherein each of the one or more broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen active agents is present at a final percentage of 25% or less of the total weight of the sunscreen composition.

18. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the sunscreen composition is a solid or a liquid.

19. The sunscreen composition of claim 1 , wherein the sunscreen composition is a lotion, a lip balm, a bodywash, a shampoo, a conditioner, a soap, a gel, a hand sanitizer, a cream, a spray, a mousse, a make-up or a hair spray.
