Abstract

Systems, device and techniques are disclosed for dynamically retrieving and monitoring geo-fence activity. A meta geo-fence may be identified based on a user device geolocation. The meta geo-fence having a radius that is dynamically generated to include previously defined geo-fences within or touching the meta geo-fence. User device geolocation may be monitored in relation to the defined geo-fences included in the radius of the meta geo-fence. A communication may be sent to the user device when the user device reports that the user device has entered or exited one of the previously defined geo-fences within or touching the radius of the meta geo-fence.

Claims (27)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving a geolocation of a user device;

identifying a meta geo-fence encompassing a geographic area including the geolocation of the user device wherein the meta geo-fence is identified from among a plurality of meta geo-fences, each of the plurality of meta geo-fences encompassing a separate geographic area;

identifying one of one or more geo-fences within the meta geo-fence, wherein the one of the one or more geo-fences includes the geolocation of the user device; and

sending a communication to the user device based on the one of the one or more geo-fences.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein a separate plurality of geo-fences is within each of the plurality of meta geo-fences.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the meta geo-fence is associated with a city.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein each of the geo-fences within the meta geo-fence is associated with a point interest of the city.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the communication is associated with one of the points of interest of the city that is associated with the one of the one or more geo-fences.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the meta geo-fence is obtained from an online database or through an API call to a service.

7. A system comprising:

a communication service that receives a geolocation of a user device, identifies a meta geo-fence encompassing a geographic area including the geolocation of the user device wherein the meta geo-fence is identified from among a plurality of meta geo-fences, each of the plurality of meta geo-fences encompassing a separate geographic area, identifies one of one or more geo-fences within the meta geo-fence, wherein the one of the one or more geo-fences includes the geolocation of the user device, and sends a communication to the user device based on the one of the one or more geo-fences.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein a separate plurality of geo-fences is within each of the plurality of meta geo-fences.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the meta geo-fence is associated with a city.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein each of the geo-fences within the meta geo-fence is associated with a point interest of the city.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the communication is associated with one of the points of interest of the city that is associated with the one of the one or more geo-fences.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the meta geo-fence is obtained from an online database or through an API call to a service.

13. A system comprising: one or more computers and one or more storage devices storing instructions which are operable, when executed by the one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

receiving a geolocation of a user device;

identifying a meta geo-fence encompassing a geographic area including the geolocation of the user device wherein the meta geo-fence is identified from among a plurality of meta geo-fences, each of the plurality of meta geo-fences encompassing a separate geographic area;

identifying one of one or more geo-fences within the meta geo-fence, wherein the one of the one or more geo-fences includes the geolocation of the user device; and

sending a communication to the user device based on the one of the one or more geo-fences.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein a separate plurality of geo-fences is within each of the plurality of meta geo-fences.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the meta geo-fence is associated with a city.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein each of the geo-fences within the meta geo-fence is associated with a point interest of the city.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the communication is associated with one of the points of interest of the city that is associated with the one of the one or more geo-fences.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the meta geo-fence is obtained from an online database or through an API call to a service.
