Abstract

A display control method is provided for a vehicle having a front pillar. An image of a region about the vehicle is obtained from a camera. The region includes a driver's blind spot caused by the front pillar of the vehicle. From the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot is extracted in a shape of a curved display provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar. The curved display is caused to display the extracted image.

Claims (81)

1. A display control method for a vehicle having a front pillar, the method comprising:

obtaining, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by the front pillar of the vehicle;

extracting, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar; and

causing the curved display to display the extracted image,

wherein, when a door of the vehicle is in an open state, the obtaining, the extracting and the causing the curved display to display the extracted image are not performed.

2. The display control method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the obtaining, the extracting and the causing the curved display to display the extracted image are performed when the door of the vehicle is in a closed state.

3. A display control method for a vehicle having a front pillar, the method comprising:

obtaining, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by the front pillar of the vehicle;

extracting, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a rectangular shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar; and

causing the curved display to display the extracted image,

wherein the extracting includes cutting out, from the obtained image, a rectangular area corresponding to the rectangular shape of the curved display,

the obtained image has a rectangular shape, and

a side of the rectangular area is inclined at an acute angle with respect to a side of the rectangular shape of the obtained image.

4. The display control method according to claim 3 ,

wherein the extracting further includes

rotating an image of the cut rectangular area by the acute angle to obtain the extracted image.

5. A display control method for a vehicle having a front pillar, the method comprising:

obtaining, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by the front pillar of the vehicle;

extracting, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar;

superimposing a predetermined image to attract a driver's attention on the extracted image; and

causing the curved display to display the extracted image together with the predetermined image.

6. The display control method according to claim 3 , further comprising:

superimposing a predetermined image to attract a driver's attention on the extracted image,

wherein the predetermined image is inclined at a same angle as the acute angle, and

in the causing the curved display to display the extracted image, the predetermined image is displayed together with the extracted image.

7. The display control method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the curved display includes light emitting element.

8. A display control device for a vehicle comprising:

a processor that obtains, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by a front pillar of the vehicle, and extracts, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar; and

a controller that causes the curved display to display the extracted image,

wherein, when a door of the vehicle is in an open state, the processor does not perform obtainment of the image of the region and extraction of the image of the driver's blind spot, and the controller causes the curved display to display no image of the driver's blind spot.

9. A display control device for a vehicle comprising:

a processor that obtains, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by a front pillar of the vehicle, and extracts, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a rectangular shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar; and

a controller that causes the curved display to display the extracted image,

wherein the processor, in the extraction of the image of the driver's blind spot, cuts out, from the obtained image, a rectangular area corresponding to the rectangular shape of the curved display,

the obtained image has a rectangular shape, and

a side of the rectangular area is inclined at an acute angle with respect to a side of the rectangular shape of the obtained image.

10. A display control device for a vehicle comprising:

a processor that obtains, from a camera, an image of a region about the vehicle, the region including a driver's blind spot caused by a front pillar of the vehicle, extracts, from the obtained image, an image of the driver's blind spot in a shape of a curved display that is provided along a curved interior surface of the front pillar, and superimposes a predetermined image to attract a driver's attention on the extracted image; and

a controller that causes the curved display to display the extracted image together with the predetermined image.

11. The display control method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the obtaining, the extracting and the causing the curved display to display the extracted image are performed when the vehicle is traveling.

12. The display control method according to claim 11 ,

wherein the obtaining, the extracting and the causing the curved display to display the extracted image are performed when the vehicle is not traveling and the door of the vehicle is in a closed state.

13. The display control method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the curved display includes an organic EL display panel.

14. The display control method according to claim 3 ,

wherein the curved display includes an organic EL display panel.

15. The display control method according to claim 5 ,

wherein the curved display includes an organic EL display panel.

16. The display control device according to claim 8 ,

wherein, when the door of the vehicle is in a close state, the processor performs the obtainment and the extraction, and the controller causes the curved display to display the extracted image.

17. The display control device according to claim 8 ,

wherein, when the vehicle is traveling, the processor performs the obtainment and the extraction, and the controller causes the curved display to display the extracted image.
