Abstract

Provided herein are method and apparatus for channel coding in the fifth Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) system. An embodiment provides an apparatus for a Next Generation NodeB (gNB), including circuitry, which is configured to: generate Downlink Control Information (DCI) payload for a NR-Physical Downlink Control Channel (NR-PDCCH); attach Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) to the DCI payload; mask the CRC with an Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI) using a bitwise modulus 2 addition operation, wherein the number of bits for the RNTI is different from the number of bits for the CRC; and perform polar encoding for the DCI payload with the masked CRC.

Claims (49)

1. A base station comprising:

processing circuitry configured to:

generate downlink control information (DCI) payload for a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH);

attach a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) to the DCI payload;

mask the CRC with a Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI), wherein the number of bits in the RNTI is different from the number of bits in the CRC;

perform polar encoding on the DCI payload and the masked CRC, to obtain encoding output;

perform rate matching on the encoding output to form a rate matched output; and

scramble the rate matched output with a sequence that has been initialized using parameters, the parameters including the RNTI and a parameter associated with a control resource set (CORESET).

2. The base station of claim 1 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the CRC, a predetermined sequence is appended prior to the RNTI bits such that the number of bits in the RNTI appended with the predetermined sequence is equal to the number of bits in the CRC.

3. The base station of claim 1 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the CRC, a predetermined sequence is appended after the RNTI bits such that the number of bits in the RNTI appended with the predetermined sequence is equal to the number of bits in the CRC.

4. The base station of claim 1 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the CRC, the RNTI is extended by repeating a plurality of the RNTI bits.

5. The base station of claim 1 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is larger than the number of bits in the CRC, the CRC is masked with a portion of the RNTI, wherein the portion of the RNTI has a same bit number as the CRC.

6. The base station of claim 1 , wherein the RNTI is masked onto a portion of the CRC which appears relatively later in a decoding order of polar decoding.

7. The base station of claim 1 , wherein the PDCCH conforms to the 3GPP 5G New Radio standard.

8. The base station of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:

interleave the DCI payload and the masked CRC prior to said polar encoding.

9. A user equipment (UE), comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) interface; and

processing circuitry configured to:

receive information from a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH);

descramble the information with a sequence, to obtain descrambling output, wherein the sequence has been initialized using parameters, the parameters including the RNTI and a parameter associated with a control resource set (CORESET);

perform polar decoding on the descrambling output to obtain downlink control information (DCI) payload and a masked CRC;

demask the masked CRC with a masking sequence that includes at least a portion of a Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI), wherein the number of bits in the RNTI is different from the number of bits in the masked CRC.

10. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:

check the DCI payload using the demasked CRC.

11. The UE of claim 9 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by appending a predetermined sequence prior to the RNTI bits.

12. The UE of claim 9 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by appending a predetermined sequence after the RNTI bits.

13. The UE of claim 9 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by periodically extending the RNTI.

14. The UE of claim 9 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is larger than the number of bits in the masked CRC, said demasking includes demasking the masked CRC with said portion of the RNTI, wherein said portion has a same number of bits as the masked CRC.

15. The UE of claim 9 , wherein said demasking is performed so that a portion of the masked CRC that appears relatively later in a polar decoding order interacts with the RNTI.

16. The UE of claim 9 , further comprising:

an antenna subsystem coupled to the RF interface.

17. The UE of claim 9 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:

deinterleave the DCI payload and the masked CRC prior to said demasking.

18. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor configured to cause a user equipment (UE) to:

receive information from a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH);

descramble the information with a sequence, to obtain descrambling output, wherein the sequence has been initialized using parameters, the parameters including the RNTI and a parameter associated with a control resource set (CORESET);

perform polar decoding on the descrambling output to obtain downlink control information (DCI) payload and a masked CRC;

demask the masked CRC with a masking sequence that includes at least a portion of a Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI), wherein the number of bits in the RNTI is different from the number of bits in the masked CRC.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

check the DCI payload DCI using the demasked CRC.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein, when the number of bits in the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by appending a predetermined sequence prior to the RNTI bits.

21. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein, when the number of bits in for the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by appending a predetermined sequence after the RNTI bits.

22. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein, when the number of bits in for the RNTI is less than the number of bits in the masked CRC, the masking sequence is generated by periodically extending the RNTI.

23. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein, when the number of bits in for the RNTI is larger than the number of bits in the masked CRC, said demasking includes demasking the masked CRC with said portion of the RNTI, wherein said portion has a same number of bits as the masked CRC.
