Abstract

A composition including a crop nutrition active ingredient and a first solvent that mitigates or eliminates disadvantages associated with traditional solvents. A composition including the crop nutrition active ingredient, the first solvent, a second solvent, and a surfactant is also provided. The first solvent includes at least one caprolactam-derived solvent.

Claims (30)

1 . A composition comprising:

a first solvent, the first solvent including a caprolactam-derived solvent, the caprolactam-derived solvent according to the general formula:

wherein R is a linear, branched, or cyclic alkyl group of 1 to 6 unsubstituted or substituted carbons and R 1 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H or an alkyl group with substituted or unsubstituted carbons; and

a crop nutrition active ingredient dissolved in the first solvent.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the caprolactam-derived solvent is according to the general formula:

wherein n is 0 or 1; R 1 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H or an alkyl group with substituted or unsubstituted carbons; R 2 is independently selected from the group consisting of: H or —CH 3; and R 3 is independently selected from the group consisting of: H, —CH 3, a fluoro alkyl of 1 to 3 carbons, and —C(O)NR 4 R 4 , wherein R 4 is selected from the group consisting of: —CH 3 or —CH 2 CH 3 .

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the caprolactam-derived solvent includes at least one selected from the group of N-methylcaprolactam, N-ethylcaprolactam, and N-butylcaprolactam.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes at least one selected from the group of a urease inhibitor and a nitrification inhibitor.

5 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes the urease inhibitor, the urease inhibitor including at least one selected from the group of N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide and N-(n-propyl) thiophosphoric triamide.

6 . The composition of claim 4 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes the nitrification inhibitor, the nitrification inhibitor including at least one selected from the group of dicyandiamide and 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)-pyridine.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , further including a surfactant.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , further including a second solvent, the second solvent including at least one selected from the group of an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent.

9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein a concentration of the crop nutrition active ingredient is from 5 weight percent to 75 weight percent of the composition.

10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein when stored at 4° C., the composition is stable for at least 13 days.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein when stored at 50° C., the composition is stable for at least 34 days.

12 . A composition comprising:

a first solvent including a caprolactam-derived solvent, the caprolactam-derived solvent according to the general formula:

wherein R is a linear, branched, or cyclic alkyl group of 1 to 6 unsubstituted or substituted carbons and R 1 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H or an alkyl group with substituted or unsubstituted carbons;

a crop nutrition active ingredient dissolved in the first solvent

a second solvent; and

a surfactant.

13 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein the caprolactam-derived solvent is according to the general formula:

wherein n is 0 or 1; R 1 are independently selected from the group consisting of: H or an alkyl group with substituted or unsubstituted carbons; R 2 is independently selected from the group consisting of: H or —CH 3; and R 3 is independently selected from the group consisting of: H, —CH 3, a fluoro alkyl of 1 to 3 carbons, and —C(O)NR 4 R 4 , wherein R 4 is selected from the group consisting of: —CH 3 or —CH 2 CH 3 .

14 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein the caprolactam-derived solvent includes at least one selected from the group of N-methylcaprolactam, N-ethylcaprolactam, and N-butylcaprolactam.

15 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes at least one selected from the group of a urease inhibitor and a nitrification inhibitor.

16 . The composition of claim 15 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes the urease inhibitor, the urease inhibitor including at least one selected from the group of N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide and N-(n-propyl) thiophosphoric triamide.

17 . The composition of claim 16 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient consists of N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide.

18 . The composition of claim 15 , wherein the crop nutrition active ingredient includes the nitrification inhibitor, the nitrification inhibitor including at least one of: dicyandiamide and 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)-pyridine.

19 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein a concentration of the crop nutrition active ingredient is from 5 weight percent to 75 weight percent of the composition.

20 . The composition of claim 12 , wherein the second solvent includes at least one selected from the group of diabasic esters, alkyl lactates, dioxolanes, glycols, glycol ethers, alkylene carbonates, and alkoxyalcohols.
