Abstract

Some embodiments of the invention provide a transaxle drive system for ride-on equipment. The transaxle drive system can include a frame supporting at least one power source and at least two subframes, the at least one power source including at least one drive pulley. The system can also include transaxle assemblies driven by at least a portion of at least one belt from the at least one drive pulley. The transaxle assemblies can include a first transaxle assembly supported by a subframe, the first transaxle assembly coupled to the at least one drive pulley with at least one belt, and a second transaxle assembly supported by another subframe, the second transaxle assembly coupled by at least one belt to the at least one drive pulley. The transaxle assemblies can be independently pivoted with respect to each other, the frame, and the power source.

Claims (34)

1. Ride-on equipment comprising:

a main frame;

at least one subframe, wherein the at least one subframe is pivotally coupled to the main frame;

at least one power source, wherein the at least one power source is coupled to and supported by the main frame, and wherein the at least one power source is configured to drive at least one drive pulley;

at least one transaxle assembly coupled to and supported by the at least one subframe, the at least one transaxle assembly comprising at least one driven pulley,

wherein the at least one transaxle assembly is configured to be driven by at least a portion of at least one belt extending between the at least one drive pulley and the at least one driven pulley, and

further wherein the at least one transaxle assembly and the at least one driven pulley are configured to pivot with respect to the at least one power source and the at least one drive pulley.

2. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , further comprising a pair of drive wheels, wherein each drive wheel is operably coupled to the at least one transaxle assembly on a respective side of the at least one subframe.

3. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , wherein the at least one transaxle assembly comprises a pair of hydrostatic transaxles.

4. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , wherein the at least one subframe comprises a first subframe and a second subframe, wherein each of the first subframe and the second subframe pivot independently relative to the main frame about a common pivot axis.

5. The ride-on equipment of claim 4 , wherein the at least one transaxle assembly comprises a first hydrostatic transaxle and a second hydrostatic transaxle, and further wherein the first hydrostatic transaxle is coupled to and supported by the first subframe and the second hydrostatic transaxle is coupled to and supported by the second subframe.

6. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , further comprising at least one motion-absorbing suspension component at least partially coupling the main frame with the at least one subframe.

7. The ride-on equipment of claim 6 , wherein the at least one subframe is pivotally coupled to the main frame at a first end of the at least one subframe and is at least partially coupled to the main frame by way of the at least one motion-absorbing suspension component at a second end of the at least one subframe.

8. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , further comprising a mower deck, wherein the mower deck is suspended at least partially below the main frame.

9. The ride-on equipment of claim 8 , wherein the mower deck is positioned between a pair of front wheels and a pair of drive wheels.

10. The ride-on equipment of claim 8 , wherein the mower deck is operably coupled to the at least one power source.

11. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , wherein the at least one power source is an internal combustion engine.

12. The ride-on equipment of claim 1 , further comprising a pulley and belt drive assembly, the pulley and belt drive assembly comprising at least one belt idler pulley positioned outside of the at least one subframe and supported by the main frame, wherein the at least one belt is an endless belt, the endless belt coupled with the at least one belt idler pulley and the at least one driven pulley.

13. The ride-on equipment of claim 12 , wherein the pulley and belt drive assembly further comprises at least one backside idler pulley operably coupled to the endless belt.

14. The ride-on equipment of claim 13 , wherein the endless belt is further coupled with the at least one drive pulley, and further wherein the at least one backside idler pulley is configured and arranged to pivot with respect to the at least one drive pulley.

15. Ride-on equipment comprising:

a pair of front wheels;

a first rear drive wheel;

a second rear drive wheel;

a main frame;

a first subframe pivotally coupled to the main frame about a pivot axis;

a second subframe pivotally coupled to the main frame about the pivot axis, the second subframe positioned on an opposite side of the main frame from the first subframe;

at least one power source, wherein the at least one power source is coupled to and supported by the main frame;

a first transaxle assembly coupled to and supported by the first subframe, the first transaxle assembly operably coupled to a first rear drive wheel; and

a second transaxle assembly coupled to and supported by the second subframe, the second transaxle operably coupled to the second rear drive wheel,

wherein each of the first transaxle assembly and the second transaxle assembly are configured to be driven by the at least one power source, and

further wherein each of the first transaxle assembly and the second transaxle assembly are configured to pivot independently with respect to the at least one power source.

16. The ride-on equipment of claim 15 , wherein each of the first transaxle assembly and the second transaxle assembly comprise a hydrostatic transaxle.

17. The ride-on equipment of claim 15 , wherein the at least one power source comprises at least one drive pulley, the first transaxle assembly comprises a first driven pulley, and the second transaxle assembly comprises a second driven pulley, wherein the at least one drive pulley, the first driven pulley, and the second driven pulley are operably coupled by an endless belt.
