Abstract

A generator enclosure system provides for tool-less removal of protective panels. The panels are configured to lock in place and unlock by a technician using only their hands. Side panels interlock with front and back panels. At least the front panel may be removed by actuating, by hand, a lever on a locking mechanism and lifting the panels up and away from the generator enclosure system.

Claims (34)

1. A method of assembling a generator enclosure system including an engine and an alternator, the method comprising:

attaching a rear panel to a base including a first support element and a second support element to define a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber, the third chamber being for ventilation within the generator enclosure system, wherein the first support element includes a locking bolt, wherein the first support element supports the engine and the alternator;

positioning a front panel including a locking mechanism against the first support element and second support element;

engaging the locking bolt within a retention element of the locking mechanism to lock the front panel to the first support element;

attaching at least one side panel to the front panel and the rear panel; and

pivoting, after attaching the at least one side panel to the front panel and the rear panel, a top panel of the generator enclosure system from an open position that allows removal of the at least one side panel to a closed position that inhibits removal of the at least one side panel.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching at least one side panel to the front panel and the rear panel comprises:

attaching a first side panel to the front panel and the rear panel; and

attaching a second side panel to the front panel and the rear panel.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein attaching the first side panel and second side panel further comprises:

connecting a first connecting element on a first side of each side panel to a corresponding connecting element on the front panel and connecting a second connecting element on a second side of each side panel to a corresponding connecting element on the rear panel.

4. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

removing the first and second side panels before removing the front panel;

unlocking the locking mechanism by manipulating a lever of the locking mechanism by hand to release the locking bolt; and

removing the front panel from the base.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the front panel further includes positioning the locking bolt within a retention element of the locking mechanism and pivotably engaging the locking bolt to retain the front panel against the first support element.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the front panel further includes inserting at least one mounting post of the base into at least one aperture of the front panel.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the front panel to the first support element is performed without a tool.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a fan draws air into the ventilation chamber.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing a housing for the fan supported by the first support element and coupled to the engine.

10. A method of assembling a generator enclosure system including an engine and an alternator, the method comprising:

attaching a rear panel to a base including a first support element and a second support element, wherein the first support element includes a locking bolt;

positioning a front panel including a locking mechanism against the first support element and second support element;

engaging the locking bolt within a retention element of the locking mechanism to lock the front panel to the first support element;

attaching a first side panel to the front panel and the rear panel;

attaching a second side panel to the front panel and the rear panel;

connecting a first connecting element on a first side of each side panel to directly connect to a corresponding connecting element on the front panel and connecting a second connecting element on a second side of each side panel to directly connect to a corresponding connecting element on the rear panel, wherein the first support element and the second support element define at least one chamber, the at least one chamber being for ventilation within the generator enclosure system, wherein the first support element supports the engine and the alternator; and

pivoting, after attaching at least the first side panel to the front panel and the rear panel, a top panel of the generator enclosure system from an open position that allows removal of the at least the first side panel to a closed position that inhibits removal of the at least first side panel.

11. A method of assembling a generator enclosure system including an engine and an alternator, the method comprising:

attaching a rear panel to a base including a first support element and a second support element, wherein the first support element includes a locking bolt, wherein the first support element and the second support element define a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber, the third chamber being for ventilation within the generator enclosure system, wherein the first support element supports the engine and the alternator;

positioning a front panel including a locking mechanism against the first support element and second support element,

engaging the locking bolt within a retention element of the locking mechanism to lock the front panel to the first support element; and

pivoting a top panel of the generator enclosure system from an open position that allows removal of the front panel and the rear panel to a closed position that inhibits removal of the front panel and the rear panel.
