Abstract

Systems and methods are described herein for a computer-based communication application that displays, along with an incoming call notification, content specific to the parties involved. The application identifies electronic records of events attended by the users, and retrieves content specific to those records. For example, the application may identify electronic mail or meeting notifications sent between the users and concerning a particular subject matter. Images related to that subject matter are then retrieved and displayed during calls between those users. Users are thus presented with customized and personalized content specific to the subject matter of each call, thus helping them better recognize callers and more readily engage with the call.

Claims (34)

1. A method of determining content to be displayed during a call, the method comprising:

detecting an initiation of a call between a first party and a second party;

retrieving electronic records of events attended by both the first party and the second party;

selecting an electronic record of a most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party among the retrieved electronic record of events;

determining a likely subject matter of the call based on attributes of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party;

selecting content corresponding to the determined likely subject matter of the call; and

transmitting the selected content for display to the first party and the second party responsive to the initiating of the call.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining the likely subject matter of the call further comprises determining the likely subject matter from a title of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party, a subject line description of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party, or text of a body of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party.

3. The method of claim 1 :

wherein the electronic records comprise media including the first party and the second party; and

wherein the determining the likely subject matter of the call further comprises determining the subject matter from a most recent one of the media.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic records comprise one or more of call records corresponding to previous calls between the first party and the second party, meeting records corresponding to meetings between the first party and the second party, document records corresponding to documents exchanged between the first party and the second party, pictures of both the first party and the second party, and pictures of the events.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the retrieving electronic records and the selecting content each occur before the detecting an initiation of the call.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the retrieving electronic records and the selecting content each occur after the detecting an initiation of the call.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting content further comprises selecting content not yet transmitted for display to either the first party or the second party.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting content further comprises selecting content generated after an immediately previous call.

9. A system for determining content to be displayed during a call, the system comprising:

a storage device; and

control circuitry configured to:

detect an initiation of a call between a first party and a second party;

retrieve electronic records of events attended by both the first party and the second party;

select an electronic record of a most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party among the retrieved electronic record of events;

determine a likely subject matter of the call based on attributes of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party;

select content corresponding to the determined likely subject matter of the call; and

transmit the selected content for display to the first party and the second party responsive to the initiating of the call.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the determining the likely subject matter of the call further comprises determining the likely subject matter from a title of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party, a subject line description of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party, or text of a body of the selected electronic record of the most recent event attended by both the first party and the second party.

11. The system of claim 9 :

wherein the electronic records comprise media including the first party and the second party; and

wherein the determining the likely subject matter of the call further comprises determining the subject matter from a most recent one of the media.

12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the electronic records comprise one or more of call records corresponding to previous calls between the first party and the second party, meeting records corresponding to meetings between the first party and the second party, document records corresponding to documents exchanged between the first party and the second party, pictures of both the first party and the second party, and pictures of the events.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to retrieve the electronic records and select the content before detecting the initiation of the call.

14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to retrieve the electronic records and select the content after detecting the initiation of the call.

15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the selecting content further comprises selecting content not yet transmitted for display to either the first party or the second party.

16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the selecting content further comprises selecting content generated after an immediately previous call.
