Abstract

Personal data may be embedded in a kinegram of an identification document using a suitable low energy laser without compromising the integrity of the kinegram or the identification document. The personal data can be written in a metalized portion of the kinegram in a high definition, high resolution manner such that the personal data may be read by a human without the use of a text-enhancing viewer device (e.g., magnifying glasses). Additional personal data can be written in a reduced text size (e.g., micro-text) in another metalized portion of the kinegram such that a human must use a text-enhancing viewer device to view the micro-text personal data.

Claims (17)

1 - 30 . (canceled)

31 . A laminated identification document comprising:

a first polycarbonate layer comprising personalized data on a surface of the first polycarbonate layer;

a metallized structure in direct contact with a portion of the surface of the first polycarbonate layer; and

a second polycarbonate layer laminated to the surface of the first polycarbonate layer such that the metallized structure is laminated between the second polycarbonate layer and the surface of the first polycarbonate layer,

wherein the metallized structure defines an opening corresponding to a portion of the personalized data on the surface of the first polycarbonate layer.

32 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the first polycarbonate layer is opaque.

33 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the second polycarbonate layer is transparent.

34 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the metallized structure is a metal layer.

35 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the metallized structure is opaque.

36 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the surface of the first polycarbonate layer is visible through the second polycarbonate layer and the opening defined by the metallized structure.

37 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the personalized data comprises text, and the portion of the personalized data comprises a portion of the text.

38 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the personalized data comprises an image, and the portion of the personalized data comprises at least a portion of the image.

39 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the surface of the first polycarbonate layer is a first surface, the first polycarbonate layer has a second surface opposite the first surface, and the opening defined by the metalized structure is visible through the second surface of the first polycarbonate layer.

40 . The identification document of claim 31 , wherein the metallized structure defines a multiplicity of openings corresponding to a portion of the personalized data on the surface of the first polycarbonate layer.

41 . The identification document of claim 40 , wherein the surface of the first polycarbonate layer is visible through the second polycarbonate layer and the multiplicity of openings defined by the metallized structure.

42 . The identification document of claim 40 , wherein the surface of the first polycarbonate layer is a first surface, the first polycarbonate layer has a second surface opposite the first surface, and the multiplicity of openings defined by the metalized structure is visible through the second surface of the first polycarbonate layer.
