Abstract

The present invention provides shirts, such as shirts that are worn as work uniform shirts, which are configured to provide significant improvements in a wearer's comfort, performance, and mobility over a predefined range of motions. Embodiments of the shirts comprise one or more stretch panels that are configured to provide for stretching of the shirt at an identified micro site in order to provide a wearer with enhanced mobility. In other embodiments, the manner in which the various portions of the shirt are shaped and connected together, and specifically the connection between the sleeve and the rear panel of the shirt, may be adjusted in order to provide a wearer with enhanced mobility.

Claims (53)

1. A garment configured for enhanced mobility, comprising:

a front panel, a rear panel, a first sleeve and a second sleeve, a collar; and

a stretch panel located on the rear panel and comprising a plurality of protrusions that extend from a central point, the plurality of protrusions including:

a first protrusion extending vertically toward the collar of the garment,

a second protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a first side of the rear panel, and

a third protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a second side of the rear panel; and

wherein each protrusion narrows in width at a location distal from the central point; and wherein a distal end of the second protrusion coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the first side of the rear panel, and a distal end of the third protrusion coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the second side of the rear panel.

2. The garment of claim 1 , wherein each protrusion narrows along its length between the central point and a respective distal end.

3. The garment of claim 1 , wherein each protrusion converges to a tip at its distal end.

4. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the central point is located substantially centrally between the first side of the rear panel and the second side of the rear panel and between eight and thirteen inches below the collar.

5. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the stretch panel has an air permeability that is greater than an air permeability of a base material of the garment.

6. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the stretch panel has a moisture-wicking property that is greater than a moisture-wicking property of a base material of the garment.

7. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the garment is a shirt.

8. The garment of claim 1 , wherein the garment is a coverall.

9. A garment configured for enhanced mobility, comprising:

a front panel, a rear panel, a first sleeve and a second sleeve, a collar; and

a stretch panel located on the rear panel and comprising a plurality of protrusions that extend from a central point, the plurality of protrusions including:

a first protrusion extending vertically toward the collar of the garment,

a second protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a first side of the rear panel, the second protrusion having a distal end that coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the first side of the rear panel; and

a third protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a second side of the rear panel, the second protrusion having a distal end that coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the first side of the rear panel.

10. The garment of claim 9 , wherein each protrusion narrows along its length between the central point and a respective distal end.

11. The garment of claim 9 , wherein each protrusion converges to a tip at its respective distal end.

12. The garment of claim 9 , wherein a distal end of the first protrusion coincides with a seam adjoining the collar to the rear panel.

13. The garment of claim 9 , wherein the first protrusion extends vertically toward the collar of the garment along a vertical axis located approximately midway between the first and second sides of the rear panel.

14. The garment of claim 9 , wherein the stretch panel has an air permeability that is greater than an air permeability of a base material of the garment.

15. The garment of claim 9 , wherein the stretch panel has a moisture-wicking property that is greater than a moisture-wicking property of a base material of the garment.

16. The garment of claim 9 , wherein the garment is a shirt.

17. The garment of claim 9 , wherein the garment is a coverall.

18. A garment configured for enhanced mobility, comprising:

a front panel, a rear panel, a first sleeve and a second sleeve, a collar; and

a stretch panel located on the rear panel and comprising a plurality of protrusions that extend from a central point, the plurality of protrusions including:

a first protrusion extending vertically toward the collar of the garment and terminating in a distal end that coincides with a seam adjoining the collar to the rear panel;

a second protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a first side of the rear panel and terminating in a distal end that coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the first side of the rear panel; and

a third protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a second side of the rear panel and terminating in a distal end that coincides with a seam adjoining the front panel and the first side of the rear panel; and wherein each protrusion narrows along its length between the central point and its respective distal end.

19. The garment of claim 15 , wherein each protrusion converges to a tip at its distal end.

20. The garment of claim 15 , wherein the stretch panel has an air permeability that is greater than an air permeability of a base material of the garment.

21. The garment of claim 15 , wherein the stretch panel has a moisture-wicking property that is greater than a moisture-wicking property of a base material of the garment.

22. The garment of claim 15 , wherein the garment is a shirt.

23. The garment of claim 15 , wherein the garment is a coverall.

24. A garment configured for enhanced mobility, comprising:

a front panel, a rear panel, a first sleeve and a second sleeve, a collar; and

a stretch panel located on the rear panel and comprising a plurality of protrusions that extend from a central point, the plurality of protrusions including:

a first protrusion extending vertically toward the collar of the garment,

a second protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a first side of the rear panel, and

a third protrusion extending diagonally downward and toward a second side of the rear panel; and

wherein each protrusion narrows in width at a location distal from the central point; and wherein a distal end of the first protrusion coincides with a seam adjoining the collar to the rear panel.

25. The garment of claim 24 , wherein each protrusion converges to a tip at its respective distal end.

26. The garment of claim 24 , wherein each protrusion narrows along its length between the central point and a respective distal end.
