Abstract

A bowel retractor device comprising a flexible endless collar member, a plurality of discrete first flexible fingers, and a plurality of discrete second flexible fingers is disclosed. The flexible endless collar member comprises an inner wall that defines a central open area. The plurality of discrete first flexible fingers protrude from a first portion of the inner wall. The discrete first flexible fingers are spaced from each other to define a first space therebetween. The plurality of discrete second flexible fingers protrude from a second portion of the inner wall that faces the first portion of the inner wall. Each discrete second flexible finger comprises a second end that extends into a corresponding first space. At least one of the discrete first flexible fingers and at least one of the discrete second flexible fingers each comprise a ball-shaped feature formed on an end thereof.

Claims (27)

1. A bowel retractor device, comprising:

an elongated flexible endless collar member comprising an inner wall that defines a central open area;

a plurality of discrete first flexible fingers protruding inwardly from a first portion of said inner wall into said central open area, wherein each said discrete first flexible finger comprises a first end, wherein said first ends are spaced from each other to define a first space therebetween, and wherein each said first end comprises a first ball-shaped member formed thereon; and

a plurality of discrete second flexible fingers protruding from a second portion of said inner wall that faces said first portion of said inner wall, wherein each said discrete second flexible finger comprises a second end, wherein said second ends define a second space therebetween, wherein each said second end extends into a corresponding said first space, wherein each said first end extends into a corresponding said second space, and wherein each said second end comprises a second ball-shaped member formed thereon.

2. The bowel retractor device of claim 1 , wherein each said first ball-shaped member comprises a first diameter, and wherein each said second ball-shaped member comprises a second diameter that differs from said first diameter.

3. The bowel retractor device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one manipulation formation on said elongated flexible endless collar member.

4. The bowel retractor device of claim 3 , wherein said elongated flexible endless collar member comprises an external surface, and wherein said at least one manipulation formation protrudes from said external surface.

5. The bowel retractor device of claim 1 , wherein said central open area is elongated and comprises:

a first open area end portion that has a first width; and

a second open area end portion that has a second width that differs from said first width.

6. A bowel retractor device, comprising:

an elongated flexible endless collar member comprising an inner wall that defines an elongated central open area, wherein said elongated central open area comprises:

a first open area end portion, wherein said first open area end portion comprises a first width; and

a second open area end portion, wherein said second open area end portion comprises a second width that differs from said first width, and wherein said bowel retractor device further comprises:

a plurality of discrete first flexible fingers protruding inwardly from a first portion of said inner wall into said elongated central open area, wherein each said discrete first flexible finger comprises a first end, wherein said first ends are spaced from each other to define a first space therebetween; and

a plurality of discrete second flexible fingers protruding from a second portion of said inner wall that faces said first portion of said inner wall, wherein each said discrete second flexible finger comprises a second end, wherein said second ends define a second space therebetween, wherein each said second end extends into a corresponding said first space, wherein each said first end extends into a corresponding said second space.

7. The bowel retractor device of claim 6 , further comprising at least one manipulation formation on said endless collar member.

8. The bowel retractor device of claim 7 , wherein said elongated flexible endless collar member comprises an external surface, and wherein said at least one manipulation formation protrudes from said external surface.

9. A bowel retractor device, comprising:

a flexible endless collar member comprising an inner wall that defines a central open area; and

a plurality of discrete first flexible fingers protruding from a first portion of said inner wall, wherein said discrete first flexible fingers are spaced from each other to define a first space therebetween; and

a plurality of discrete second flexible fingers protruding from a second portion of said inner wall that faces said first portion of said inner wall, wherein each said discrete second flexible finger comprises a second end that extends into a corresponding said first space, and wherein at least one of said discrete first flexible fingers and at least one of said discrete second flexible fingers each comprise a ball-shaped feature formed on an end thereof.

10. The bowel retractor device of claim 9 , wherein each said discrete first flexible finger comprises a first diameter, and wherein each said discrete second flexible finger comprises a second diameter that differs from said first diameter.

11. The bowel retractor device of claim 10 , wherein said second diameter is greater than said first diameter.

12. The bowel retractor device of claim 9 , wherein said discrete second flexible fingers are spaced from each other to define a second space therebetween, and wherein each said discrete first flexible finger comprises a first end that extends into a corresponding second space.

13. The bowel retractor device of claim 9 , further comprising at least one manipulation formation on said flexible endless collar member.

14. The bowel retractor device of claim 13 , wherein said flexible endless collar member comprises an external surface, and wherein said at least one manipulation formation protrudes from said external surface.
