Abstract

A roulette wagering system is described that includes a roulette machine configured to operate live roulette games in which a roulette ball is launched into an angled annular track encircling a roulette wheel. A controller associated with the roulette machine may regulate one or more inertial values associated with the roulette ball. A bet close time of a betting window associated with the live roulette games may be determined based on the one or more inertial values associated. A rotation velocity of the roulette wheel may be adjusted subsequent to a bet close time of a live roulette games. Game cycle events may be detected using audio associated with the live roulette games and audible and/or visual effects may be generated based on the audio. A controller associated with the roulette machine may synchronizes the live roulette games operated by the roulette machine with live roulette games operated by one or more additional roulette machines. Bets may be placed based on a player selected betting risk level.

Claims (38)

1 . A method for adjusting a rotation speed of a roulette wheel of a roulette machine after a bet close time, comprising:

determining the rotation speed of the roulette wheel during a roulette game cycle;

providing a rotation adjustment command to the roulette machine; and

adjusting the rotation speed in response to the rotation adjustment command after the bet close time.

2 . The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the rotation adjustment command is provided to one or more mechanical components of the roulette machine associated with the roulette wheel's rotation.

3 . The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more mechanical components include a braking apparatus.

4 . The method as recited in claim 3 , wherein the braking apparatus adjusts a braking force applied to the roulette wheel in response to the rotation adjustment command.

5 . The method as recited in claim 4 , wherein the braking apparatus increases or decreases the braking force.

6 . The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more mechanical components include a driving apparatus.

7 . The method as recited in claim 6 , wherein the driving apparatus adjusts a driving force that spins the roulette wheel in response to the rotation adjustment command.

8 . The method as recited in claim 7 , wherein the driving apparatus increases or decreases the driving force

9 . The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the rotation adjustment command includes one or more of a velocity delta value that specifies an expected rotation velocity of the roulette wheel following the adjusting and a trigger time that specifies when adjusting is to be initiated.

10 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the velocity delta value and the trigger time are each determined using input data from independent random number generators.

11 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the velocity delta value and the trigger time are each determined using input data from a single random number generator.

12 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the velocity delta value is determined based on the expected rotation velocity of the roulette wheel as measured prior to the bet close time.

13 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the expected rotation velocity specified by the velocity delta value is less than an average human visual perception time.

14 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time corresponds to a point in time subsequent to the bet close time.

15 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time corresponds to a point in time after a roulette ball is launched into an annular track of the roulette machine.

16 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an estimation of when a roulette ball will exit an annular track of the roulette machine.

17 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an estimation of when a roulette ball will be launched into an annular track of the roulette machine.

18 . The method as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an expected number of roulette ball revolutions in an annular track of the roulette machine.

19 . A roulette machine, comprising:

a roulette wheel;

a driving apparatus configured to apply a driving force that spins the roulette wheel at the start of a game cycle;

a braking apparatus configured to apply a braking force to the roulette wheel during the game cycle;

one or more sensors configured to monitor a rotation speed of the roulette wheel during the game cycle; and

a controller configured to determine a rotation adjustment command for one or more of the driving apparatus or the braking apparatus based on the rotation speed and to cause one or more of the driving apparatus or the braking apparatus to adjust the rotation speed in response to the rotation adjustment command after a bet close time of the game cycle.

20 . The machine as recited in claim 19 , wherein the braking apparatus adjusts a braking force applied to the roulette wheel in response to the rotation adjustment command by increasing or decreasing the braking force.

21 . The machine as recited in claim 19 , wherein the driving apparatus adjusts a driving force applied to the roulette wheel in response to the rotation adjustment command by increasing or decreasing the driving force

22 . The machine as recited in claim 19 , wherein the rotation adjustment command includes one or more of a velocity delta value that specifies an expected rotation velocity of the roulette wheel following the adjusting and a trigger time that specifies when adjusting is to be initiated.

23 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the velocity delta value and the trigger time are each determined using input data from either independent random number generators or a single random number generator.

24 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the velocity delta value is determined based on the expected rotation velocity of the roulette wheel as measured prior to the bet close time.

25 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the expected rotation velocity specified by the velocity delta value is less than an average human visual perception time.

26 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the trigger time corresponds to a point in time subsequent to the bet close time.

27 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the trigger time corresponds to a point in time after a roulette ball is launched into an annular track of the roulette machine.

28 . The machine as recited in claim 22 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an estimation of when a roulette ball will exit an annular track of the roulette machine.

29 . The machine as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an estimation of when a roulette ball will be launched into an annular track of the roulette machine.

30 . The machine as recited in claim 9 , wherein the trigger time is determined based on an expected number of roulette ball revolutions in an annular track of the roulette machine.
