Abstract

A temperature control system may include a temperature control device, an electrical wall box having a hole for passing a wire or cable into the wall box, and a gland configured to be inserted into the hole of the wall box. The temperature control device may include a temperature sensor. The wall box may be configured to be mounted to a wall. The temperature control device may be configured to be mounted to the wall box such that the temperature sensor is located within the wall box. A wire or cable may be passed from a wall cavity of the wall, through the gland once inserted into the hole of the wall box, into an interior of the wall box, and attached to the temperature control device. The gland and the wall box may be configured to prevent air within the wall cavity from entering the wall box when the wire or cable is passed into the wall box.

the second surface is sealed and has a first area and a second area;

a thickness of the first area is less than a thickness of the second area; and

the thickness of the first area is configured to be punctured, forming an opening to receive a wire or a cable there through; and

wherein the gland is further configured such that when the gland is inserted into the opening of the plate:

a surface of the intermediate portion lies within the opening of the plate,

the front portion lies within an interior of the wall box, and

the rear portion lies at an exterior of the wall box and within the wall cavity; and

wherein:

the front portion comprises a diameter, the intermediate portion comprises a diameter, and the rear portion comprises a diameter,

the diameter of the front portion is greater than the diameter of the intermediate portion and less than the diameter of the rear portion, and

the diameter of the rear portion is greater than the diameter of the intermediate portion.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a temperature control device, and wherein the opening of the front side of the wall box is configured to receive the temperature control device.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first area comprises a shape that includes a centrally located area having at least two portions of a same shape extending there from.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the front portion comprises a first surface and an opposing second surface, each of which opposes the second surface the rear portion;

the second surface of the front portion is configured to contact the first side of the plate when the gland is inserted into the opening of the plate; and

the first surface of the front portion defines an opening.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the front portion, the intermediate portion, and the rear portion define a passage that extends from the opening of the front portion, through each of the front portion, the intermediate portion, and the rear portion, and terminates at the second surface of the rear portion.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the opening of the front portion and the passage are configured to receive the wire or the cable such that the wire or the cable can be passed from the wall cavity, through the gland, and into the interior of the wall box and be connected with the electrical device.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the passage comprises a diameter of a size such that the wire or the cable experiences no resistance or minimal resistance as the wire or the cable is passed through the passage.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the diameter of the passage comprises approximately 0.331 inches.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the passage is configured to receive a wire or a cable having a diameter in a range of approximately 0.17 inches to 0.325 inches.

10. The system of claim 6 , wherein the front portion comprises a first region having a cone shape and a second region having a cylindrical shape, and wherein the first region extends from the first surface of the front portion to the second region and the second region extends to the second surface of the front portion.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein:

a diameter of the first surface of the front portion is less than a diameter of the opening in the plate of the wall box; and

a diameter of the second region of the front portion is greater than the diameter of the opening in the plate of the wall box.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the diameter of the front portion is greater than a diameter of the opening in the plate of the wall box; and

the diameter of the rear portion is greater than the diameter of the opening in the plate of the wall box.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the diameter of the front portion comprises a first diameter of the front portion and wherein the front portion further comprises a second diameter that is less than the first diameter such that the front portion comprises a cone shape, and wherein the second diameter of the front portion is less than the diameter of the opening in the plate of the wall box.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the surface of the intermediate portion has a length that is substantially equivalent to a thickness of the plate of the wall box.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the gland is made of silicon having a dynamic to static stiffness ratio of approximately 2 to 1.

16. A gland configured to be inserted into an opening formed in a body of a wall box, wherein the gland comprises:

a front portion;
