Abstract

A golf club head comprises a body, a track formed in or attached to the body and having a length and a weight and weight retainer. The weight is continuously repositionable such that it can be positioned at any selected point along the track between its ends. The weight has a major dimension, and the weight retainer comprises a fastening member having a diameter not greater than about one half of the major dimension of the weight.

Claims (40)

1. A wood-type golf club head, comprising:

a thin walled body including a crown portion, a sole portion, and a skirt portion extending between the crown and the sole portion, a face portion extending between the sole portion and the crown portion at a fore end of the body opposite an aft end of the body;

a curved track being at least one of formed in or attached to the body, the curved track closer to the aft end of the body than the fore end of the body and including two spaced apart walls;

a weight being adjustable to one selected point or more than one point along the curved track, the weight being repositionable within the curved track and shaped to prevent substantial rotation in the curved track; and

a fastening member engaging the weight, the fastening member having an exposed end portion configured to be driven by a tool;

wherein the weight is secured by engaging inwardly toward an interior of the body and the fastening member is in tension when the weight is secured in the curved track;

wherein the weight is dimensioned to be received in and repositionable within the curved track.

2. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is continuously repositionable along the curved track.

3. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is repositionable to more than one predetermined point along the curved track.

4. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is removable from and replaceable within the curved track.

5. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the curved track extends along a curved path following a perimeter shape of the aft end of the body.

6. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the curved track is recessed within the sole portion of the body.

7. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is recessed within the curved track.

8. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is configured to adjust a center of gravity location for the golf club head.

9. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the curved track and the weight are complementarily shaped to align the weight within the curved track.

10. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the body is formed of a titanium alloy.

11. The wood-type golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the weight is spaced away from a bottom wall of the channel when the weight is secured.

12. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the weight comprises steel.

13. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the weight comprises tungsten.

14. A wood-type golf club head, comprising:

a thin walled body including a crown portion, a sole portion, and a skirt portion extending between the crown and the sole portion, wherein a face portion extends between the sole portion and the crown portion at a fore end of the body opposite an aft end of the body;

a track being at least one of formed in or attached to the sole portion at the aft end of the body and extends along a path following a general shape of the aft end of the body, the track including two spaced apart walls;

a weight being adjustable to one selected point or more than one point along the track, the weight being repositionable within the track and being shaped to prevent substantial rotation in the track; and

a fastening member engaging the weight, the fastening member having an exposed end portion configured to be driven by a tool, the fastening member arranged to engage the golf club head;

wherein the weight is secured by engaging inwardly toward an interior of the body and the fastening member is in tension when the weight is secured in the track;

wherein the weight is dimensioned to be received in and repositionable within the track;

wherein adjusting the weight adjusts a center of gravity location for the golf club head.

15. The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein the track is recessed within the sole portion of the body.

16. The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the weight is recessed within the track.

17. The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein the track extends along a curved path following a perimeter shape of the aft end of the body.

18. The golf club head of claim 17 , wherein the weight is removable and replaceable from within the track.

19. A wood-type golf club head, comprising:

a thin walled body including a crown portion, a sole portion, and a skirt portion extending between the crown and the sole portion, a face portion extending between the sole portion and the crown portion at a fore end of the body opposite an aft end of the body;

a curved track being at least one of formed in or attached to the body, the curved track closer to the aft end of the body than the fore end of the body and including two spaced apart walls;

a weight being adjustable to one selected point or more than one point along the curved track and oblong in shape; and

a fastening member engaging the weight, the fastening member having an exposed end portion configured to be driven by a tool;

wherein the weight is secured by engaging inwardly toward an interior of the body and the fastening member is in tension when the weight is secured;

wherein the weight is dimensioned to be received in and repositionable within the curved track;

wherein the curved track is recessed within the body.

20. The golf club head of claim 19 , wherein at least a portion of the track is formed of a titanium alloy.
