Abstract

A vibration damper system used in a food processor to reduce the vibration of a high power motor that has varying speed cycles is disclosed. The motor is suspended from a ceiling that is mounted to the motor base through a plurality of bolted joints. The bolted joints are surrounded by a grommet that has a unique shape. The grommet comprises generally three parts, which are an upper portion, a middle portion, and a lower portion. The middle portion is smaller than other portion so that it creates a recess for the ceiling to be sandwiched between the grommet. In a preferred embodiment, the lower portion of the grommet further comprises a plurality of petal members that provide a non-uniform spring rate to the grommet so that the grommet is adapted best to reduce the upward impulse of the motor. The food processor also contains a novel air ventilation system.

Claims (10)

1. A vibration dampening block formed of an elastomer to be used in a food processor to reduce vibration of a motor, comprising:

an upper portion defining a first ring shaped cylinder having an upper outer circumference; a middle portion defining a second ring shaped cylinder having a middle outer circumference that is smaller than the upper outer circumference;

a lower portion defining a third ring shaped cylinder and a plurality of petal members attached on a bottom surface of the third ring shaped cylinder, wherein the petal members are in the shape of a quarter torus; the third ring shaped cylinder having a lower outer circumference that is greater than the middle outer circumference;

wherein the height of said first ring shaped cylinder is greater than the height of said third ring shaped cylinder;

wherein the quarter torus shape of the petal members is defined by a substantially flat vertical surface, a substantially flat horizontal surface, and a curved quarter surface of the torus; wherein the quarter circumference of each petal member is oriented to face outward and the substantially flat vertical surface of each petal member is oriented to face inward;

wherein the top surface of the first ring shaped cylinder is a flat surface and the petal members are only attached to the bottom surface of the third ring shaped cylinder; and,

a bore through the vibration dampening block providing a channel for a bolt joint to go through; wherein the plurality of petal members surround the bore and the substantially flat vertical surfaces of said petal members are flush against said bolt joint.

2. The vibration dampening block of claim 1 , wherein the petal members are positioned in a radially symmetrical manner.

3. The vibration dampening block of claim 1 , wherein the petal members have horizontal cross-sectional areas that are increasing toward the third ring shaped cylinder.

4. The vibration dampening block of claim 1 , wherein the upper portion has a linear spring rate and the lower portion has a non-uniform spring rate that increases vertically upward.
