METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS RELATING TO MICROBIAL TREATMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF DISORDERS
The present disclosure provides methods, systems, compositions, and kits to address the need for microbiome-related treatment of health conditions and disease. The present disclosure provides for treatment of metabolic conditions using microbial compositions.
. A method of treating a metabolic disorder in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to said subject a composition comprising between 3 and 6, inclusive, isolated and purified microbes selected from the group consisting of: Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum, Clostridium beijerinckii, Clostridium butyricum, Clostridium indolis, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Akkermansia muciniphila , and Eubacterium hallii , thereby treating said metabolic disorder, wherein said composition comprises at least 1×10 8 CFUs of said isolated and purified microbes.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said administration is oral.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises at least 1×10 9 CFUs of said isolated and purified microbes.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises at least 1×10 10 CFUs of said isolated and purified microbes.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition is in a unit dosage form.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated in a single enteric-coated capsule.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition is formulated as a food bar.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said isolated and purified microbes is a butyrate-producing microbe selected from the group consisting of: Clostridium beijerinckii, Clostridium butyricum, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii , and Eubacterium hallii.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein at least one of said isolated and purified microbes is a microbe that converts a prebiotic fiber to an intermediate compound utilized by said butyrate-producing microbe for butyrate production, wherein said microbe that produces said intermediate compound is selected from the group consisting of: Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum , and Akkermansia muciniphila.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises Bifidobacterium infantis.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises Clostridium beijerinckii.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises Faecalibacterium prausnitzii.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises Akkermansia muciniphila.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition comprises Eubacterium hallii.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said subject is a human subject.
. The method of claim 17 , wherein said metabolic disorder is Type-2 diabetes.
. The method of claim 17 , wherein said metabolic disorder is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition further comprises a prebiotic.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said isolated and purified microbes are formulated in a powder form in said composition.
. The method of claim 21 , wherein said composition is suspended in a liquid prior to said administering to said subject.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition is administered daily to said subject.
. The method of claim 23 , wherein said composition is administered at least twice a day.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein said composition is administered at least three times a day.
. The method of claim 25 , wherein said composition is administered at least four times a day.
. The method of claim 26 , wherein said composition is administered at least five times a day.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said administration occurs no more than 3 hours after food intake by said subject.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition does not contain dairy.
. A method of treating a metabolic disorder in a human subject, said method comprising orally administering to said human subject a composition comprising:
a prebiotic comprising a dietary fiber; and
between 3 and 6, inclusive, isolated and purified microbes selected from the group consisting of Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Bifidobacterium infantis, Bifidobacterium longum, Clostridium beijerinckii, Clostridium butyricum, Clostridium indolis, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, Akkermansia muciniphila , and Eubacterium hallii;
wherein said composition comprises at least 1×10 8 CFUs of said isolated and purified microbes,
wherein said composition is a unit dosage form,
thereby treating said metabolic disorder.
