Abstract

In a general aspect, a method for data communication over a data channel on a data path between a first node and a second node includes maintaining data characterizing one or more current or previous data communication connections traversing the data channel and initiating a new data communication connection between the first node and the second node including configuring the new data communication connection at least in part according to the maintained data.

Claims (47)

1. A method for data communication over a data channel on a data path between a first computing device and a second computing device utilizing a transport layer protocol, the method comprising:

maintaining, at the first computing device, data corresponding to one or more current data communication connections between the first and second computing devices, the maintained data comprising values of one or more communication protocol parameters corresponding to the one or more current data communication connections;

initiating, at the first computing device, a new data communication connection between the first computing device and the second computing device including configuring the new data communication connection at least in part according to the maintained data by utilizing the values of the one or more communication protocol parameters as initial communication protocol parameters for the new data communication connection; and

transmitting, from the first computing device and to the second computing device, data via the new data communication connection.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

adjusting, at the first computing device, the initial communication protocol parameters during the transmitting of the data based on feedback received from the second computing device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more communication protocol parameters include one or more of:

a congestion window size;

a port number; and

a pacing interval.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more communication protocol parameters include forward error correction parameters comprising at least one of a block size, an interleaving factor, and a code rate.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, from the first computing device and to the second computing device, the values of the one or more communication protocol parameters.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the values of one or more communication protocol parameters further correspond to one or more previous data communication connections between the first computing device and the second computing device.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

retrieving data corresponding to the one or more previous data communication connections between the first computing device and the second computing device; and

determining the values of one or more communication protocol parameters based on the data corresponding to the one or more previous data communication connections and the data corresponding to the one or more current data communication connections.

8. A first computing device configured for data communication over a data channel on a data path with a second computing device utilizing a transport layer protocol, the first computing device comprising:

one or more processors; and

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

maintaining data corresponding to one or more current data communication connections between the first and second computing devices, the maintained data comprising values of one or more communication protocol parameters corresponding to the one or more current data communication connections;

initiating a new data communication connection between the first computing device and the second computing device including configuring the new data communication connection at least in part according to the maintained data by utilizing the values of the one or more communication protocol parameters as initial communication protocol parameters for the new data communication connection; and

transmitting, to the second computing device, data via the new data communication connection.

9. The first computing device of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

adjusting the initial communication protocol parameters during the transmitting of the data based on feedback received from the second computing device.

10. The first computing device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more communication protocol parameters include one or more of:

a congestion window size;

a port number; and

a pacing interval.

11. The first computing device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more communication protocol parameters include forward error correction parameters comprising at least one of a block size, an interleaving factor, and a code rate.

12. The first computing device of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting, to the second computing device, the values of the one or more communication protocol parameters.

13. The first computing device of claim 8 , wherein the values of one or more communication protocol parameters further correspond to one or more previous data communication connections between the first computing device and the second computing device.

14. The first computing device of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise:

retrieving data corresponding to the one or more previous data communication connections between the first computing device and the second computing device; and

determining the values of one or more communication protocol parameters based on the data corresponding to the one or more previous data communication connections and the data corresponding to the one or more current data communication connections.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon, which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations for data communication over a data channel on a data path between a first computing device and a second computing device utilizing a transport layer protocol, the operations comprising:

maintaining data corresponding to one or more current data communication connections between the first and second computing devices, the maintained data comprising values of one or more communication protocol parameters corresponding to the one or more current data communication connections;

initiating a new data communication connection between the first computing device and the second computing device including configuring the new data communication connection at least in part according to the maintained data by utilizing the values of the one or more communication protocol parameters as initial communication protocol parameters for the new data communication connection; and

transmitting, to the second computing device, data via the new data communication connection.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:

adjusting the initial communication protocol parameters during the transmitting of the data based on feedback received from the second computing device.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more communication protocol parameters include one or more of:

a congestion window size;
