Abstract

A network device receives, from a customer, a customer subscription to a media transformation service; receives, from the customer as a first component of the subscription, data associated with customer media; and receives, from the customer as a second component of the subscription, one or more customer-selected parameters that specify media transformations to be performed upon the customer media. The network device receives, from a client browser, a request for the customer media, and transforms, responsive to receipt of the request from the client browser, the customer media based on the one or more customer-selected parameters to produce a transformed version of the customer media. The network device sends the transformed version of the customer media, via a content delivery network, to the client browser.

Claims (39)

1. A method comprising:

receiving a first request directed to a HyperText Markup Language (“HTML”) document comprising an original Uniform Resource Locator (“URL”) associated with customer media;

producing a modified URL based on the original URL modified to include at least one parameter specifying a transformation of the customer media;

providing the HTML document with the modified URL in place of the original URL in response to said first request;

receiving a second request directed to the modified URL;

obtaining an original version of the customer media based on said second request;

transforming the original version of the customer media to a modified version of the customer media based on the at least one parameter associated with the modified URL; and

providing the modified version of the customer media in response to the second request.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the original version of the customer media produces a first presentation on a display of a requesting client device, and wherein the modified version of the customer media produces a different second presentation on the display of the requesting client device.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a selection of the transformation from a content provider of the customer media, and wherein said producing the modified URL is in response to said selection.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising receiving the original version of the customer media or the original URL associated with the customer media in association with said selection of the transformation.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transforming comprises modifying the original version of the customer media by one or more of resizing, zooming, manipulating color, and inserting content to the customer media.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transforming comprises optimizing the customer media for presentation at a particular destination.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising caching the modified version of the customer media to local storage.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising providing the modified version of the customer media from the local storage in response to a subsequent request directed to the modified URL, wherein said providing the modified version of the customer media in response to the subsequent request is performed without said transforming.

9. A method comprising:

receiving, from a customer associated with customer media, at least one media transformation that the customer specifies for the customer media;

identifying a HyperText Markup Language (“HTML”) page with a first link to the customer media;

replacing the first link in the HTML page with a second link in response to said receiving the at least one media transformation specified for the customer media; and

providing the HTML page with the second link in place of the first link in response to a client request for the HTML page.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first link is a Uniform Resource Locator (“URL”), and wherein the second link is the URL modified to include a parameter associated with the at least one media transformation.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising receiving a request directed to the second link, and applying the at least one media transformation to the customer media in response to the parameter associated with the at least one media transformation included with the second link.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein said applying comprises changing a visual presentation of the customer media from a first presentation to a different second presentation based on the at least one media transformation.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the second presentation comprises one or more of a different size, color, resolution, or content than the first presentation.

14. The method of claim 9 further comprising retrieving the customer media without the at least one media transformation from a server operated by the customer.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising providing the customer media modified with the at least one media transformation in response to a request directed to the second link.

16. The method of claim 9 further comprising registering the customer for one of a plurality of tiers of service.

17. The method of claim 16 further comprising providing the customer access to a first set of media transformations in response to registering the customer for a first tier of service, and providing the customer access to a different second set of media transformations in response to registering the customer for a different second tier of service.

18. The method of claim 9 , wherein the customer media comprises one or more images, audio media, video media, or audio and video media.

19. A device comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a set of processor-executable instructions; and

one or more processors configured to execute the set of processor-executable instructions, wherein executing the set of processor-executable instructions causes the one or more processors to:

receive a first request directed to a HyperText Markup Language (“HTML”) document comprising an original Uniform Resource Locator (“URL”) associated with customer media;

produce a modified URL based on the original URL modified to include at least one parameter specifying a transformation of the customer media;

provide the HTML document with the modified URL in place of the original URL in response to said first request;

receive a second request directed to the modified URL;

obtain an original version of the customer media based on said second request;

transform the original version of the customer media to a modified version of the customer media based on the at least one parameter associated with the modified URL; and

provide the modified version of the customer media in response to the second request.
