Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described for wireless communications. A wireless device may transmit a buffer status report. Based on the buffer status report, the wireless device may receive a control command to use radio resources of a secondary cell. The wireless device may transmit a random access preamble via the secondary cell.

Claims (90)

1. A wireless device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to:

transmit, to a base station, a buffer status report;

receive, from the base station responsive to the buffer status report, a control command to use a secondary cell for transmission of a random access preamble, wherein uplink timing associated with the secondary cell is different from uplink timing associated with activated cells of the wireless device;

transmit, to the base station via the secondary cell, the random access preamble, wherein transmission timing associated with the random access preamble is based on a first synchronization signal transmitted by the base station via a secondary cell group comprising the secondary cell;

receive at least one control packet comprising resource allocation information for transmission via the secondary cell; and

transmit, based on the resource allocation information and via the secondary cell, at least one data packet.

2. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to receive at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of the secondary cell.

3. The wireless device of claim 2 , wherein the at least one control message comprises at least one radio resource control message.

4. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the control command further comprises an index indicating the secondary cell if the control command is not transmitted via a downlink carrier of the secondary cell.

5. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to receive an activation command to activate the secondary cell.

6. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein:

a primary cell group comprises a first subset of a plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the primary cell group is based on a first cell of the primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group comprises a second subset of the plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a second cell of the secondary cell group.

7. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein a cell of a plurality of cells is assigned to a plurality of cell groups, and wherein the plurality of cell groups comprise:

a primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group.

8. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the wireless device to receive, from the base station, at least one control message comprising:

configuration parameters of the secondary cell; and

a first parameter for assignment of the secondary cell to the secondary cell group.

9. The wireless device of claim 1 , wherein the control command comprises:

a mask index; and

an identifier of the random access preamble.

10. A method comprising:

transmitting, by a wireless device to a base station, a buffer status report;

receiving, from the base station responsive to the buffer status report, a control command to use a secondary cell for transmission of a random access preamble, wherein uplink timing associated with the secondary cell is different from uplink timing associated with activated cells of the wireless device;

transmitting, to the base station via the secondary cell, the random access preamble, wherein transmission timing associated with the random access preamble is based on a first synchronization signal transmitted by the base station via a secondary cell group comprising the secondary cell;

receiving at least one control packet comprising resource allocation information for transmission via the secondary cell; and

transmitting, based on the resource allocation information and via the secondary cell, at least one data packet.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein a cell of a plurality of cells is assigned to a plurality of cell groups, and wherein the plurality of cell groups comprise:

a primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising receiving, by the wireless device from the base station, an activation command to activate the secondary cell.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising receiving, by the wireless device from the base station, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of the secondary cell.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the at least one control message comprises at least one radio resource control message.

15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising receiving, by the wireless device from the base station, at least one control message comprising:

configuration parameters of the secondary cell; and

a first parameter for assignment of the secondary cell to the secondary cell group.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein the control command comprises:

a mask index; and

an identifier of the random access preamble.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein:

a primary cell group comprises a first subset of a plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the primary cell group is based on a first cell of the primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group comprises a second subset of the plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a second cell of the secondary cell group.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the control command further comprises an index indicating the secondary cell if the control command is not transmitted via a downlink carrier of the secondary cell.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

transmitting, to a base station, a buffer status report;

receiving, from the base station responsive to the buffer status report, a control command to use a secondary cell for transmission of a random access preamble, wherein uplink timing associated with the secondary cell is different from uplink timing associated with activated cells of a wireless device;

transmitting, to the base station via the secondary cell, the random access preamble, wherein transmission timing associated with the random access preamble is based on a first synchronization signal transmitted by the base station via a secondary cell group comprising the secondary cell;

receiving at least one control packet comprising resource allocation information for transmission via the secondary cell; and

transmitting, based on the resource allocation information and via the secondary cell, at least one data packet.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein a cell of a plurality of cells is assigned to a plurality of cell groups, and wherein the plurality of cell groups comprise:

a primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause receiving, from the base station, an activation command to activate the secondary cell.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause receiving, from the base station, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of the secondary cell.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 22 , wherein the at least one control message comprises at least one radio resource control message.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause receiving, from the base station, at least one control message comprising:

configuration parameters of the secondary cell; and

a first parameter for assignment of the secondary cell to the secondary cell group.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the control command comprises:

a mask index; and

an identifier of the random access preamble.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein:

a primary cell group comprises a first subset of a plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the primary cell group is based on a first cell of the primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group comprises a second subset of the plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a second cell of the secondary cell group.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the control command further comprises an index indicating the secondary cell if the control command is not transmitted via a downlink carrier of the secondary cell.

28. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:

receiving, from a wireless device, a buffer status report;

transmitting, to the wireless device responsive to the buffer status report, a control command to use a secondary cell for transmission of a random access preamble, wherein uplink timing associated with the secondary cell is different from uplink timing associated with activated cells of the wireless device;

receiving, from the wireless device via the secondary cell, the random access preamble, wherein transmission timing associated with the random access preamble is based on a first synchronization signal transmitted via a secondary cell group comprising the secondary cell;

transmitting at least one control packet comprising resource allocation information for a transmission via the secondary cell; and

receiving, based on the resource allocation information and via the secondary cell, at least one data packet.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein a cell of a plurality of cells is assigned to a plurality of cell groups, and wherein the plurality of cell groups comprise:

a primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause transmitting, to the wireless device, an activation command to activate the secondary cell.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause transmitting, to the wireless device, at least one control message comprising configuration parameters of the secondary cell.

32. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 31 , wherein the at least one control message comprises at least one radio resource control message.

33. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause transmitting, to the wireless device, at least one control message comprising:

configuration parameters of the secondary cell; and

a first parameter for assignment of the secondary cell to the secondary cell group.

34. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein the control command comprises:

a mask index; and

an identifier of the random access preamble.

35. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein:

a primary cell group comprises a first subset of a plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the primary cell group is based on a first cell of the primary cell group; and

the secondary cell group comprises a second subset of the plurality of cells, and uplink transmission timing associated with the secondary cell group is based on a second cell of the secondary cell group.

36. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 28 , wherein the control command further comprises an index indicating the secondary cell if the control command is not transmitted via a downlink carrier of the secondary cell.
