Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method and apparatus for filtering and surgical procedures. An exemplary apparatus includes an evacuation tube having a filter, a long axis and a hollow conduit extending through the long axis, the hollow conduit fluidly connecting a tube inlet and a tube outlet, the filter located within the hollow conduit operable to remove particles from a flow passing through the hollow conduit from the tube inlet to the tube outlet.

Claims (12)

1. An apparatus for surgical procedures, the apparatus comprising:

an evacuation tube comprising a filter, a long axis and a hollow conduit extending through the long axis, the hollow conduit fluidly connecting a tube inlet and a tube outlet, the filter located within the hollow conduit operable to remove particles from a flow passing through the hollow conduit from the tube inlet to the tube outlet, wherein the filter comprises a carbon media extending through an entire length of the long axis of the evacuation tube along an interior wall of the evacuation tube, and wherein a cross-sectional diameter of the carbon media is less than an interior cross-sectional diameter of the hollow conduit throughout the entire length of the long axis of the evacuation tube, and wherein the carbon media does not extend the entire cross-section of the hollow conduit along the entire length of the long axis of the evacuation tube, and wherein the hollow conduit is defined by the filter that is coupled to the interior wall of the evacuation tube and a portion of the interior wall of the evacuation tube that is not coupled to the filter.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the carbon media comprises at least one of activated carbon impregnated material and activated carbon absorber.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the filter is coupled to the interior wall of the evacuation tube with one of a pinch ring, glue, or friction fit.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the filter comprises a carbon media extending through the long axis of the evacuation tube along an interior wall of the evacuation tube.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1 , the evacuation tube comprising a plurality of filters with in the evacuation tube spaced along the long axis.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the filter media has a length greater than a length of the evacuation tube, and wherein the filter media is folded to extend through the length of the evacuation tube more than one time.

7. An apparatus for surgical procedures, the apparatus comprising:

an evacuation tube comprising a filter, a long axis and a hollow conduit extending through the long axis, the hollow conduit fluidly connecting a tube inlet and a tube outlet, the filter located within the hollow conduit operable to remove particles from a flow passing through the hollow conduit from the tube inlet to the tube outlet, wherein the filter is a filter insert maintained within the conduit, the filter insert comprising a cylindrical body defining a hollow center, the hollow center maintaining a filter media along a first portion of the hollow center and an adjacent carbon slug along a second portion of the hollow center, wherein the carbon slug comprises a cylindrical body defining a hollow center, and wherein the cylindrical body of the carbon slug comprises a first radial section having a diameter equal to an interior diameter of the cylindrical body of the filter insert and a second radial section having a second diameter less than the interior diameter of the cylindrical body of the filter insert.

8. The apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the filter media is at least one of ULPA, HEPA and coarse particle filter.

9. The apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the filter media is at least one of pleated, flat sheet shaped, and solid material.

10. The apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the filter insert is one of (i) fixedly maintained within the conduit and (ii) moveably maintained within the conduit.
