Abstract

A transceiver for interfacing with an analyte sensor. The transceiver may include an interface device and a notification device. The interface device may be configured to convey a power signal to the analyte sensor and to receive data signals from the analyte sensor. The notification device may be configured to generate one or more of a vibrational, aural, and visual signal based on one or more data signals received from the analyte sensor. The interface device of the transceiver may receive analyte data from the analyte sensor, and the transceiver may comprise a processor configured to calculate an analyte concentration value based on the received analyte data. The notification device may be configured to generate one or more of aural, visual, or vibrational alarm when the calculated analyte concentration value exceeds or falls below a threshold value.

Claims (53)

1. A transceiver for interfacing with a glucose sensor, the transceiver comprising:

an interface device configured to receive data signals from the glucose sensor;

a battery;

a processor configured to calculate a glucose concentration value based on one or more of the received data signals from the glucose sensor;

a notification device including a vibration motor, wherein the notification device is configured to generate:

a vibrational signal having a first pattern, and

a vibrational signal having a second pattern different than the first pattern; and

a communication circuit configured to transmit data to an external device;

wherein the transceiver is configured to determine whether a first condition is met, cause the notification device to generate the vibrational signal having the first pattern if the first condition is met, determine whether a second condition is met, and cause the notification device to generate the vibrational signal having the second pattern if the second condition is met;

wherein the first condition is the calculated glucose concentration value falling below a hypoglycemic threshold value, and the second condition is for prompting a user to input a calibration point.

2. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the interface device comprises an antenna configured to wirelessly convey the power signal to an antenna of the glucose sensor and to wirelessly receive the data signals from the antenna of the glucose sensor.

The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the interface device of the transceiver comprises an antenna configured to be capable of coupling with an antenna of the glucose sensor, and the notification device is further configured to generate one or more of a vibrational, aural, and visual signal indicative of the coupling between the antennas of the glucose sensor and the transceiver.

4. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the interface device comprises a wired connection to the glucose sensor through a transdermal needle tip.

5. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the external device is a smartphone.

6. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the communication circuit comprises a wireless communication circuit configured to wirelessly transmit the data to the external device.

7. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the notification device is further configured to emit an aural alarm, and the transceiver is further configured to cause the notification device to generate the aural alarm if the first condition is met.

8. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the external device is configured to generate a vibrational signal.

9. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the notification device further includes one or more LEDs configured to generate one or more visual signals.

10. The transceiver of claim 1 , further comprising a temperature sensor.

11. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver is configured to be held in place on a body by adhesive.

12. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the transceiver is an on-body, wearable transceiver.

13. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the glucose sensor is an implantable glucose sensor.

14. The transceiver of claim 1 , wherein the notification device is configured to generate a vibrational signal having a third pattern different than the first and second patterns, and the transceiver is configured to determine whether a third condition is met and cause the notification device to generate the vibrational signal having the third pattern if the third condition is met.

15. The transceiver of claim 14 , wherein the third condition is a power level of the battery falling below a threshold.

16. The transceiver of claim 14 , wherein the third condition is the calculated glucose concentration value exceeding a hyperglycemic threshold value.

17. The transceiver of claim 1 , further comprising an energy harvesting mechanism to charge the battery.

18. The transceiver of claim 17 , wherein the third condition is a power level of the battery falling below a threshold.

19. The transceiver of claim 17 , wherein the third condition is the calculated glucose concentration value exceeding a hyperglycemic threshold value.

20. A transceiver for interfacing with a glucose sensor, the transceiver comprising:

an interface device configured to receive data signals from the glucose sensor;

a battery;

a notification device including a vibration motor;

a processor configured to:

calculate an analyte concentration value based on one or more of the received data signals from the glucose sensor,

determine whether a first condition is met, wherein the first condition is the calculated analyte concentration value falling below a hypoglycemic threshold value,

determine whether a second condition is met, wherein the second condition is for prompting a user to input a calibration point,

control the notification device to generate a vibrational signal having a first pattern if the first condition is met, and

control the notification device to generate a vibrational signal having a second pattern different than the first pattern if the second condition is met; and

a communication circuit configured to transmit data to an external device.

21. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the interface device comprises an antenna configured to wirelessly convey the power signal to an antenna of the glucose sensor and to wirelessly receive the data signals from the antenna of the glucose sensor.

The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the interface device of the transceiver comprises an antenna configured to be capable of coupling with an antenna of the glucose sensor, and the processor is further configured to control the notification device to generate one or more of a vibrational, aural, and visual signal indicative of the coupling between the antennas of the glucose sensor and the transceiver.

23. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the interface device comprises a wired connection to the glucose sensor through a transdermal needle tip.

24. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the external device is a smartphone.

25. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the communication circuit comprises a wireless communication circuit configured to wirelessly transmit the data to the external device.

26. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the notification device is further configured to emit an aural alarm, and the processer is further configured to control the notification device to generate the aural alarm if the first condition is met.

27. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the external device is configured to generate a vibrational signal.

28. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the notification device further includes one or more LEDs configured to generate one or more visual signals.

29. The transceiver of claim 20 , further comprising a temperature sensor.

30. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the transceiver is configured to be held in place on a body by adhesive.

31. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the transceiver is an on-body, wearable transceiver.

32. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the glucose sensor is an implantable glucose sensor.

33. The transceiver of claim 20 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine whether a third condition is met and control the notification device to generate a vibrational signal having a third pattern different from the first and second patterns if the third condition is met.

34. The transceiver of claim 20 , further comprising an energy harvesting mechanism to charge the battery.
