Abstract

A wireless, electronic interchangeable locking core insertable into a core receptacle, the locking core including an outer housing and a lock core that is selectively rotatable via an external handle between a locked position and an unlocked position. The handle is prevented from rotating the locking core unless wirelessly-provided authorization credentials are validated and/or a pattern of physical input interactions with an electronic sensor is matched with a stored pattern. The pattern may be defined, for example, as a sequence of short and long interactions with a button, light sensor, touch panel, or the like. The electronic interchangeable locking core may include a battery and be configured for installation in small format interchangeable core (SFIC) housings.

Claims (51)

1 . A wireless, electronic locking core, comprising:

an external handle;

an lock core selectively rotatable by the external handle based on a status of authorized or unauthorized; and

an electronic controller configured to:

receive authorization credentials from a physically separate mobile device, and

detect a pattern of short and long input interactions via an electronic sensor;

determine the status of the lock core as authorized based on validation of at least one of:

the received authorization credentials, and

the detected pattern of short and long input interactions; and

determine the status of the lock core as unauthorized based on a failure to validate.

2 . The locking core of claim 1 , wherein the electronic controller is further configured to physically transition the locking core from the unauthorized status to the authorized status, based on the validation, by actuating a motor to physically move a portion of the lock core.

3 . The locking core of claim 1 , wherein the lock core conforms to the small format interchangeable core (SFIC) standards and is configured for insertion into a core receptacle of a lock assembly configured to receive SFIC lock cores.

4 . A wireless, electronic locking core, comprising:

an external handle;

a lock core that is:

rotatable via the external handle from a locked position to an unlocked position when in a released state, and

prevented from rotating from the locked position to an unlocked position when in a secured state;

an electronic controller to:

receive, via a wireless receiver, authorization credentials from a physically separate mobile device, and

detect a pattern of physical input interactions made via an electronic sensor; and

determine a release authorization based on at least one of:

validation of the authorization credentials, and

validation of the pattern of physical inputs; and

transition the locking core from the secured state to the released state based on the determined release authorization.

5 . The locking core of claim 4 , wherein the electronic controller is configured to transition the locking core from the secure state to the released state by actuating a motor.

6 . The locking core of claim 4 , wherein the electronic controller is powered by at least one of a capacitor, a replaceable battery, and a rechargeable battery.

7 . The locking core of claim 4 , wherein the electronic controller is powered by a rechargeable battery, and wherein the locking core further comprises one of a charge port connected to terminals of the rechargeable battery and jump-start prongs to receive a disk-battery.

8 . The locking core of claim 4 , wherein the electronic sensor comprises at least one of a switch, toggle, light sensor, motions sensor, accelerometer, and slide contact.

9 . The locking core of claim 8 , wherein the electronic sensor can be toggled between three states, including not actuated, short actuation, and long actuation.

10 . The locking core of claim 9 , wherein the pattern of physical inputs comprises a pattern of short actuations and long actuations of the electronic sensor.

11 . The locking core of claim 9 , wherein short actuations are defined as those actuations with a duration less than a threshold value that is less than approximately 1 second.

The locking core of claim 4 , wherein the wireless receiver comprises at least one of a Wi-Fi module, a near-field communication (NFC) module, a radio frequency identification (RFID) module, a ZigBee module, a Z-wave module, a BACnet module, a 6LoWPAN module, an RPL module, a CoAP module, an LTE module, a Thread module, a Sigfox module, a Neul module, a Bluetooth module, and a LoRaWAN module.

13 . A wireless, electronic locking core, comprising:

an external handle;

a lock core that is:

engaged with the external handle in an engaged state, such that the locking core rotates from a locked position to an unlocked position as the external handle is moved, and

disengaged from the external handle in a disengaged state, such that movement of the external handle does not rotate the locking core from the locked position to the unlocked position;

an electronic controller to:

receive, via a wireless receiver, authorization credentials from a physically separate mobile device, and

detect a pattern of physical input interactions made via an electronic sensor;

determine an authorization to engage based on at least one of:

validation of the authorization credentials, and

validation of the pattern of physical inputs; and

transition the locking core from the disengaged state to the engaged state based on the determined authorization to engage.

14 . The locking core of claim 13 , wherein the electronic controller is configured to transition the locking core from the disengaged state to the engaged state by actuating a motor.

15 . The locking core of claim 13 , wherein the electronic controller is powered by at least one of a capacitor, a replaceable battery, and a rechargeable battery.

16 . The locking core of claim 13 , wherein the electronic sensor comprises at least one of a switch, toggle, light sensor, motions sensor, accelerometer, and slide contact.

17 . The locking core of claim 13 , wherein the electronic sensor distinguishes between short actuations and long actuation.

18 . The locking core of claim 17 , wherein the pattern of physical inputs comprises a pattern of short and long actuations of the electronic sensor.

19 . The locking core of claim 17 , wherein short actuations are defined as those actuations with a duration less than a threshold value that is less than approximately 1 second.

The locking core of claim 13 , wherein the wireless receiver comprises at least one of a Wi-Fi module, a near-field communication (NFC) module, a radio frequency identification (RFID) module, a ZigBee module, a Z-wave module, a BACnet module, a 6LoWPAN module, an RPL module, a CoAP module, an LTE module, a Thread module, a Sigfox module, a Neul module, a Bluetooth module, and a LoRaWAN module.
