Abstract

A surgical feedback system includes a surgical instrument, a data source, and a surgical hub configured to communicably couple to the data source and the surgical instrument. The surgical hub has a control circuit, wherein the control circuit is configured to receive an input from the data source, analyze the received data against a stored set of data to optimize an outcome of a surgical procedure, and communicate a recommendation based on the analyzed data.

Claims (58)

1. A surgical feedback system, comprising:

a surgical instrument configured to perform a particular surgical procedure defined by a control program;

a data source; and

a surgical hub configured to communicably couple to the data source and the surgical instrument, wherein the surgical hub comprises a control circuit, and wherein the control circuit is configured to:

receive a data input from the data source;

analyze the received data against a stored set of data to optimize an outcome of the particular surgical procedure;

detect an irregularity based on the received data;

based on detecting the irregularity, request the surgical instrument to transmit additional data;

communicate a recommendation based on the analyzed data;

update the control program of the surgical instrument during the particular surgical procedure based on the communicated recommendation;

receive an override input from a user; and

revert the control program of the surgical instrument to the control program prior to updating the control program based on the communicated recommendation.

2. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to adjust an operating parameter of the surgical instrument based on the communicated recommendation.

3. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured to communicate the recommendation by suggesting a procedural modification to a user.

4. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data and the stored set of data using a supervised learning technique.

5. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data and the stored set of data using an unsupervised learning technique.

6. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data within a local network.

7. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data by exporting the data to a remote location for compilation.

8. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the stored set of data comprises data gathered during previous surgical procedures.

9. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the data source comprises data specific to a particular patient.

10. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to update the stored set of data with the communicated recommendation.

11. The surgical feedback system of claim 1 , wherein the configuration of the control circuit to analyze further comprises:

analyze the stored set of data for surgical outcomes associated with currently used operating parameters of the surgical instrument;

analyze surgical outcomes associated with other potential operating parameters associated with the surgical instrument or other surgical instruments; and

communicate the surgical outcomes associated with currently used operating parameters of the surgical instrument and the surgical outcomes associated with the other potential operating parameters.

12. A surgical feedback system, comprising:

a data source; and

a surgical hub comprising a control circuit, wherein the control circuit is configured to:

receive a data input from the data source;

analyze the received data against a stored set of data to optimize an outcome of a surgical procedure, wherein the stored set of data comprises data collected during previous surgical procedures;

detect an irregularity based on the received data;

based on detecting the irregularity, request a surgical instrument to transmit additional data;

communicate a recommendation based on the analyzed data;

adjust a control program of the surgical instrument during an ongoing surgical procedure based on the communicated recommendation, wherein the control program defines an operation of the surgical instrument during a particular surgical procedure; and

override the implemented control program by switching back to a previous control program in response to receiving an override input from a user.

13. The surgical feedback system of claim 12 , wherein the communicated recommendation is based on a particular surgical instrument positioned within a surgical site.

14. The surgical feedback system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data against the stored set of data using a supervised learning technique.

15. The surgical feedback system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuit is configured to analyze the received data against the stored set of data using an unsupervised learning technique.

16. The surgical feedback system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuit is configured to communicate the recommendation by suggesting a procedural modification to a user.

17. The surgical feedback system of claim 12 , wherein the configuration of the control circuit to analyze further comprises:

analyze the stored set of data for surgical outcomes associated with currently used operating parameters of the surgical instrument;

analyze other potential operating parameters associated with the surgical instrument or other surgical instruments;

identify correlations linking specific operating parameters of the surgical instrument or the other surgical instruments with specific surgical result outcomes; and

communicate the identified correlations to a user.

18. A surgical feedback system, comprising:

a data source; and

a surgical instrument comprising a control circuit, wherein the control circuit is configured to:

receive an input from the data source;

analyze the received input against a stored set of data to optimize an outcome of a surgical procedure, wherein the stored set of data comprises data collected during previous surgical procedures, wherein the control circuit is further configured to:

analyze the stored set of data for surgical outcomes associated with currently used operating parameters of the surgical instrument;

analyze other potential operating parameters associated with the surgical instrument or other surgical instruments; and

identify correlations linking specific operating parameters of the surgical instrument or the other surgical instruments with specific surgical result outcomes;

determine a recommendation based on the analyzed stored set of data;

communicate the identified correlations and the determined recommendation to a user;

receive an input from the user in response to the communicated correlations and recommendation; and

adjust an operating parameter of the surgical instrument based on the determined recommendation and the received user input.

19. The surgical feedback system of claim 18 , wherein the control circuit is further configured to update the stored set of data with the determined recommendation.

20. The surgical feedback system of claim 18 , wherein the control circuit is configured to adjust the operating parameter of the surgical instrument during an ongoing surgical procedure.
