Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first audio input from a user requesting access to information or a service, sending a request for the information or service to an authentication server, where the request includes first authentication information based on the first audio input and further includes a user identifier associated with the user, receiving a second audio input from a client system of the user, where the second audio input includes a first authentication code to be compared to a second authentication code generated by the authentication server, sending second authentication information based on the second audio input and the user identifier to the authentication server for verification, receiving, from the authentication server, an indication of whether the user is successfully authenticated based on the second authentication information, and providing, to the user, access to the information or service when the user is successfully authenticated.

Claims (54)

1. A method comprising, by one or more computing systems:

receiving a first audio input from a user requesting access to information or a service;

determining that the user is to be authenticated prior to accessing the information or service;

sending a request for the information or service to an authentication server, wherein the request includes first authentication information based on the first audio input and further includes a user identifier associated with the user;

receiving a second audio input from a client system of the user, wherein the second audio input includes a first authentication code to be compared to a second authentication code generated by the authentication server;

sending second authentication information based on the second audio input and the user identifier to the authentication server for verification;

receiving, from the authentication server, an indication of whether the user is successfully authenticated based on the second authentication information; and

providing, to the user, access to the information or service when the user is successfully authenticated.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first authentication information includes at least a portion of the first audio input.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first authentication information includes an intent identifier based on the first audio input.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second authentication information includes the first authentication code.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, by the authentication server:

receiving the first authentication information from the one or more computing systems;

generating the second authentication code based on the user identifier; and

sending the second authentication code to the client system of the user.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the second authentication code is further based on the first authentication information.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the second authentication code expires after a predetermined time limit.

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, by the authentication server:

generating audio data comprising an audio representation of the second authentication code.

9. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, by the authentication server:

sending, to the computing systems, instructions to audibly prompt the user to confirm the request for access to the information or service.

10. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, by the authentication server:

sending, to the client system of the user, instructions to display a prompt to confirm the request for access to the information or service.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising, by the client system of the user:

displaying a prompt requesting the user to confirm the request for access to the information or service, wherein displaying the prompt is in response to receiving, from the authentication server, the instructions to display the prompt;

receiving input from the user responsive to the prompt;

generating audio data comprising an encoding of the second authentication code in an audio format; and

playing, via an audio output device, the audio data comprising the audio representation of the second authentication code.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the encoding of the second authentication code is at a frequency inaudible to human hearing.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the encoding of the second authentication code is generated based on a translation of the second authentication code to speech using a text-to-speech translator.

14. The method of claim 5 , further comprising, by the authentication server:

receiving the second authentication information and the user identifier;

extracting the first authentication code from the second authentication information;

determining whether the extracted first authentication code corresponds to the second authentication code, wherein the second authentication code is identified based on the user identifier; and

sending, to the one or more computer systems, an indication that the user is successfully authenticated when the extracted first authentication code corresponds to the second authentication code.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the second authentication information comprises a numeric encoding of the second audio input, and extracting the first authentication code from the second authentication information comprises decoding the numeric encoding to form the first authentication code.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the second audio input comprises an audio encoding of the first authentication code, and extracting the first authentication code from the second authentication information comprises decoding the audio encoding using an audio-to-code mapping.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the second audio input comprises an audio encoding of a speech that represents the first authentication code, and extracting the first authentication code from the second authentication information comprises decoding the audio encoding using speech recognition.

18. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

receive a first audio input from a user requesting access to information or a service;

determine that the user is to be authenticated prior to accessing the information or service;

send a request for the information or service to an authentication server, wherein the request includes first authentication information based on the first audio input and further includes a user identifier associated with the user;

receive a second audio input from a client system of the user, wherein the second audio input includes a first authentication code to be compared to a second authentication code generated by the authentication server;

send second authentication information based on the second audio input and the user identifier to the authentication server for verification;

receive, from the authentication server, an indication of whether the user is successfully authenticated based on the second authentication information; and

provide, to the user, access to the information or service when the user is successfully authenticated.

19. A system comprising: one or more processors; and a non-transitory memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors operable when executing the instructions to:

receive a first audio input from a user requesting access to information or a service;

determine that the user is to be authenticated prior to accessing the information or service;

send a request for the information or service to an authentication server, wherein the request includes first authentication information based on the first audio input and further includes a user identifier associated with the user;

receive a second audio input from a client system of the user, wherein the second audio input includes a first authentication code to be compared to a second authentication code generated by the authentication server;

send second authentication information based on the second audio input and the user identifier to the authentication server for verification;

receive, from the authentication server, an indication of whether the user is successfully authenticated based on the second authentication information; and

provide, to the user, access to the information or service when the user is successfully authenticated.
