METHODS OF REDUCING THE RISK OF A CARDIOVASCULAR EVENT IN A SUBJECT ON STATIN THERAPY
In various embodiments, the present invention provides methods of reducing the risk of a cardiovascular event in a subject on statin therapy and, in particular, a method of reducing the risk of a cardiovascular event in a subject on statin therapy having a fasting baseline triglyceride level of about 135 mg/dL to about 500 mg/dL, and administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising about 1 g to about 4 g of eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester or a derivative thereof.
. A method of reducing risk of a cardiovascular event in a subject comprising, administering to the subject 2 g per day of a composition comprising omega-3 fatty acids including docosahexaenoic acid and about 625 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid for a period effective to reduce risk of the cardiovascular event in the subject, wherein the omega-3 fatty acids are in triglyceride form.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cardiovascular event is one or more of: cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization, and unstable angina.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the administration affects a relative risk reduction of said cardiovascular event of about 25%.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered to the subject in 1 to 4 dosage units per day.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 3 years.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 4 years.
. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 5 years.
. A method of reducing risk of a cardiovascular event in a subject comprising, administering to the subject 4 g per day of a composition comprising omega-3 fatty acids including docosahexaenoic acid and about 1250 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid for a period effective to reduce risk of the cardiovascular event in the subject, wherein the omega-3 fatty acids are in triglyceride form.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the cardiovascular event is one or more of: cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization, and unstable angina.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the administration affects a relative risk reduction of said cardiovascular event of about 25%.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is administered to the subject in 1 to 4 dosage units per day.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 3 years.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 4 years.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the subject is administered the composition daily for at least about 5 years.
